In MY OPINION The most insufferable ones were the ones butt kissing the boys. So many on this app seem to think that those who disagreed with their decision were evil people.

Like girl calm down we can dislike their opinion. No we don’t think all creators deserve to be unpaid for their work. Most of whom you are saying this to are also creators.

Genuine criticism does not equal bullying

And that means the fanbase itself is now culpable for allowing such behaviors to be perpetuated unchecked. This is not about personal accountability. I am speaking as a Mexican person, this is a fandom-wide issue that absolutely does need to be addressed or else everyone is just as culpable for the remarks as the ones that made them. The idea that you can just say "well some of us were being good" doesn't... wash the racism out of the equation. We have to all as a fandom speak up and deride those actions. You are allowed to be angry at what Watcher did, I personally didn't even find it to be a good idea, but the racism perpetuated was NOT a straightforward matter of people throwing around slurs.

People were separating Shane from Steven and Ryan and trying to say only they were responsible for the issue. That is absolutely a form of racism and we need to address it. Frankly, as a poc in this fandom, I don't know if I can ever interact with it again after seeing the flagrant disregard for the Watcher staff who are also largely people of color. The calls for mass firings are again a form of racism.

It is not as simple as saying "Well some people used bad language" It's an entire mindset that stems not just from the fandom itself but from society at large. And while we cannot singlehandedly address racism on a personal front, we can absolutely address it within the fandom that we are partaking in.

I'm very disappointed with the community's response to this move. it's one thing to be upset you won't get your free content, but it's another to call the guys sellouts or fakes or imply they hate their young, broke audience who are So Invested in their videos. it's literally their means of survival, there is no way Your dedication to their videos outweighs Theirs.
