The eldest daughter of Julius and Ruby Kane, she is the strongest out of the Kane Siblings (physically), she is mostly known for her wits and battle strategies.
Kamari is shown at first as cold and quick to agitate, as she tends to lose her temper very easily. But with her brother (and sister later on), she is more calm and at peace with herself. She is not that good with regulating her emotions well, and tends to fidget with her necklace when overwhelmed or stressed.
Kamari is 5'11 ft during the red pyramid, but she grows to 6'1 ft at the end of the serpent's shadow. She has dark brown skin and black curly hair that is usually tied in an afro. She has a hooked nose, black eyes (that seems to have a hint of red to them but mortals blame it on the lighting), and a cupids bow on her lips.
She wears a red, zip-up jacket that used to be her mom's, worn jeans, and either wears red converse or boots. She always wears her necklace given to her by her father, which is a Sekhmet pendant, and wears two gold and red rings that transform into whatever weapon Kamari desires at the moment. Her usual weapons of choice are a spear and two twin khopeshes for close combat.
Kamari's favorite subject to read and talk about is war, she loves to understand and predict the strategies used in battle, along with the weapons and techniques used to fight. (She's secretly a nerd and we love her for it 🫶). Her second favorite subject is genetics, she finds it fascinating and it makes her feel more connected with her deceased mother.
Kamari's middle name is her mother's name, 'Ruby'. In fact, all of the Kane Siblings have a gemstone middle names. Carter's full name is Carter Amber Kane, and Sadie's full name is Sadie Sapphire Kane.
When Sadie had been taken away to live with the Faust's, her and Kamari's relationship began to deteriate. Due to Sadie believing in their grandparents lies cause she's literally a baby rn (and punching her older sister away when Kamari was only moving her away from being hit by a car), her distrust and newfound hatred for her older sister caused Kamari to no longer be affectionate to her sister. Because of how young Sadie was, she did not remember doing this, and is confused and angry as to why Kamari is angry at her. It took a long while and a trauma talk for the two to be able to reconnect and be sisters again. Kamari holds grudges, and is a very serious person when it comes to her word.
When Kamari was 3 years old, her parents had to rush to the hospital cause they were about to have their second baby (Carter mentioned), because Amos was busy and they didn't have anyone else to take care of her in such a rush at 3 am, Ruby convinced Julius to let her parents, the Faust's, take care of Kamari until the baby was born. What the two didn't expect is that they would be stuck in the hospital for 3 days, due to complications with the labour. And in those 3 days, the Faust's neglected and abused her, refusing to even get her food. The Faust's were extremely racist and didn't approve of their daughters' romantic choices, and they did not approve that Kamari was born out of wedlock while Julius and Ruby were at college. They hated Julius, and Kamari looked nothing like their precious daughter Ruby, so they hated her too. But at some point on the third day, Mrs. Faust had become fed up with Kamari asking for food again, and so she took a pair of scissors and cut away at her curly hair, telling her that no one will love her if she ever looked like a gorgan. Conveniently, Amos Kane had come to the hospital to check up on Julius and Ruby and the new baby. While there, Ruby told Amos that she felt like something was "off", and so she asked him to go get Kamari from her grandparents for her. Amos agreed, cause he wanted to see his niece again, and instead of finding her smiling, like he expected, he found her crying with multiple cuts and bruises on her skin. Amos immediately took Kamari away from the Faust's house and went to the Hospital. In those three days, Kamari Kane had experienced more hatred from the people who were supposed to love her in her whole life, and it is those three days that she remembers clearly, and she will never forget the cries that came from her small voice as she was repeatedly doused in bleach. Being repeatedly called a "gorgan" for her braid's and a "monster who didn't deserve Ruby's love". You can guess who other cruel names they had called her, but why they did this to a three year old? Because they wanted too, cause they couldn't go after Julius, so they went after the next best thing, baby Kamari.
(Kamari's backstory is supposed to represent how racism is still rampant and how it destroys a person entirely, physically and mentally. But as Kamari grows up she will learn how to love herself and how to take pride in her looks and ethnicity. She is a very strong character, and it is cause of this moment, her intuition to protect begins.) ((also that's literally my baby, she needs a hug bad))
After that, safe to say, Kamari never went back to the Faust's house, and the Kanes never ventured back into England, that is until the day Ruby died, that is.
But after the death of Ruby, the Faust's immediately tried to take custody of Sadie. Not Carter, definitely not Kamari, but Sadie. Not cause she was a Kane, but because she looked enough to be like Ruby. She just needed a little bit of "fixing", in the eyes of the Faust's. So they filed for custody on that same tragic day, and won. Sadie refused to let go of Kamari when this was happening, but when the custody was finalized, the Faust's dragged a crying Sadie away. And when the Faust's drove away, with Sadie in tow, Kamari took off running. (Yes she chased down a car, sadly though her tiny legs couldn't quite catch up with the car, and fell flat on her face on the curb). It was that day, the day their mother died, that she blamed herself for not running faster, for not holding on tighter to her baby sister, for not being able to save her family
(Kamari was ten when this happened, and this was when she began to protect not just others in need, but solely the last bit of remaining family that she had. When she was way younger, she thought her family were royalty, and that belief kinda didn't snuff out ever, it was like a lingering thought in the back of her mind, whispering to her to not only protect, but to save them.)
Now during the years traveling with her brother and father, Kamari had slowly become more closed off from people entirely. She preferred to either be by herself or with her younger brother Carter. The two would tend to read books together while their father worked, and when they were told by Julius to go hang out with the other kids their age, it would be difficult to even strike a conversation because neither Carter or Kamari knew what any of the other kids were talking about. Of course they understood the language, they just don't know what a normal kid does, and so everything they'd talk about, neither of the two siblings would understand what they were talking about.
That's why the two siblings would stick with each other, in Kamari's mind, the whole world could be against her (which it already felt like it was) and she wouldn't care cause she had her brother for company. Which is sad when you see it from afar, but to Kamari, her brother was enough company for her.
(It used to be both Carter and Sadie that she would only really hang out with, she didn't trust others after what the Faust's did, but sadly Sadie made it clear that she hated her) ((Sadie was six and eight during this, she was a child and didn't understand what was happening, she only mimicked what she was told to do by the Faust's, everything baby Sadie does should not be held against her thank you))
But while during those years of traveling, Kamari always thought it was normal to see "hallucinations" of a whole other world under the mortal worlds feet. Sometimes, she could hear whispers of people far long gone, sometimes she could hear the groans of monsters, but once, she heard a voice, beckoning her to come find them. When Kamari looked really hard into this magical fog, she was able to see not only towering temples and monuments from the ancient days, but also statues of gods. Gods of old, gods who didn't exist, until of course, they did exist. It was old, to see a whole other world and no one believing you, she once tried to tell Carter and her father what see was seeing but something told her to not tell. Not yet, at least. The most frequent thing Kamari would see in this fog is a huge temple dedicated to a goddess who has been since long forgotten. Her name, her statues, everything was destroyed, and only the ruins remained in their place. That temple haunts Kamari's very mind, not cause it was initially scary. No, it was the strange sense of deja vu and nostalgia that she got from the temple that concerned her. Like she knew it all her life, and knew exactly who the temple was detected to. But for some reason, it's like the temple itself was hiding that information from her. So it just stood there. Wherever she went, it followed close behind. It was odd, and the voice told her not to tell anyone about what she sees, and Kamari agreed, only cause she would have probably looked crazy if she told anyone. Of course she saw other odd things too, but it was the weird fog that captivated her the most, like it was calling for her, calling for her to come home.
(When Kamari researched into this strange world that looked like ancient Egypt, she came across the Duat, the afterlife realm for the ancient Egyptians. For some reason, she felt connected to it, but she never really knew why.)
And so Kamari Kane's journey starts not with a heroic charge or a magic quest, it starts, with getting her sister from the Faust's house.
For context, my Kane Chronicles fanfic will be in the perspective of Kamari, and this is basically all the info about Kamari that I shall be letting y'all get (for now lol)
Also do ignore that I have only 3 chapters RN I swear I'm working on it 💔
