Icarus: Hey can I fly up close to the sun?
Daedalus:
Icarus: Why?
Daedalus:
Movie Witches: I became a witch after my thirteenth trial, when the ancient coven of my people danced around a fire as I drank the blood of a vanquished demon from a sacred golden chalice.
Real Witches: idk i wrote a bunch of shit down about runes, started baking and the next thing you know here i am
This is the greatest progression of events I have ever read, whereās my historical gay romance novel about this
KING JAMES, CAN YOU CHILL?
Local King Cannot Stop Promoting His Boyfriend
whereās the lush period drama about this series of events?
fun thing about king James, this guy was fairly public about his bf (more public than what was acceptable). He threw lots of extravagant parties with his man on his arm. It pissed off the church obviously so to get them off his back, heās the one that ordered the third translation of the Bible from Hebrew to English (the King James Version aka the Authorized Version) so the Bible every hot blooded all American Christian reads today was literally just written so a very gay king could fuck his boyfriend in peace.
oh my god this is hilarious
āguys, guys. I know this looks kinda gay, and i promise i have a good explanation for all this, but have you considered⦠that jesus⦠is also gay? checkmate, heteros.ā

just saying
waitā¦theyāre not free?
Not in America
Wait, where are they free?
literally everywhere else
i just read a washington post article on romcoms aging poorly due to the pushiness (and oft-stalkery conduct) of the male characters therein, and it got me thinking about pride and prejudice, and specifically darcy saying, āone word from you will silence me on this subject forever.ā
because, like, thatās the seldom-portrayed romantic dream in the patriarchal hellscape that is our world, isnāt it?
a dude being willing to say, āi understand if you donāt feel the same way about me, and iāll leave you alone forever about this if my attention is unwanted.ā
so simple, yet so wonderful in its basic human decency
and dudes to this day wonder why women still swoon over darcy
Note also: Elizabeth turns down Darcyās first proposal, and in the process, accuses him of doing some stuff he did not do (and also some stuff he totally did).
The next day, he surprises her on her walk. He hands her a letter, asks that she read it, and then takes off.
When this happened to me after I had turned someone down IN REAL LIFE, the letter contained a passionate argument to the tune ofĀ āactually youāre wrong and you do like me and you should go out with meā and it was creepy af.
Darcyās letter to Elizabeth starts with: āBe not alarmed, Madam, on receiving this letter,Ā by the apprehension of its containing any repetition of those sentiments, or renewal of those offers, which were last night so disgusting to youā. He goes on to set the record straight about the stuff he didnāt do (as well as the stuff he did) which is *actually relevant* to Elizabeth. And he, as promised, doesnāt romance her further.
Itās totally bizarre that even now, this can be considered unusually great dude behaviour.
Darcyās first proposal:Ā āYou must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.ā
Darcyās second proposal:Ā āOne word from you will silence me on this subject forever.ā
His whole arc in the book is about learning to consider other peopleās feelings and not just his own, but the fact that itās expressed via who gets to talk and who is told to shut up is so, so telling. The first time around, he imposes his voice on her whether she wants it or not. The second time, he asks how sheĀ feels, and in exchange, offers her the gift of his silence.
And yeah, the fact that dudes still! have! not! learned! this! lesson! is exhausting.
I have never seen the Keira Knightley version of P&P because they cut a crucial line out of Elizabethās initial rejection. In the book, she smacks him down because ofĀ āyour arrogance, your conceit, and your selfish disdain for the feelings of othersā. The movie cut the selfish disdain, which is absolutely the most important part of the line. Arrogance and conceit? He already knew about those! Heād already had a conversation with her about pride, specifically his pride, and he was ready to go down with that ship.
But the selfish disdain? That was new information. That was theĀ āoh shitā moment that prompted the long letter, most of which boiled down toĀ ālook, I genuinely didnāt think it would hurt your sisterās feelings much and I am legit sorry about that but I love my friend and he doesnāt deserve your mother, okay, nobody deserves your mother especially not you and Jane who seem very niceĀ and also here is the long and embarrassing story about why George Wickhamās feelings are not worth my concern or yours ever ever everā. He may be a socially awkward idiot but he does care about peopleās feelings and he wants her to know immediately that he is not the asshole she thinks he is in that regard.
And then they meet again and he practically turns himself inside out to prove that he listened and paid attention and he is being super considerate of the feelings of others at all times bc she was right and he was wrong and he is trying hard to be better about this. So he rescues Lydia not only for Elizabeth, but because he feels bad that he didnāt consider the further damage this asshole could do to other girls, he rescues Bingley and Janeās romance because he wants to repair the hurt he caused both of them, and then he very humbly proposes again to Elizabeth, with appropriate concern about her feelings.Ā
The entire second half of the book isĀ āDarcy Is More Considerate Of Others Because He Got Called On His Behaviour And Actually Listenedā and thatās the core of his appeal. Not because heās a jerk in part one (and Iāve seen so many guys use Darcy as an example of Women Love Jerks Not Nice Guys), but because when someone actually explains to the socially inept eggĀ āyou are being a jerk and hurting peopleās feelingsā his response isĀ āoh, shit, I didnāt mean to do that, I will work super hard at never doing that againā. And then he follows through and does work super hard at it and makes the change.Ā
And that is why we all love Darcy.
I really like all of this, but I want to make a correction. The movie with Keira Knightley does have the line āyour selfish disdain for the feelings of othersā.

is it normal to want to bone certain composers
highly depends on which composer. tchaikovsky? yes. mendelssohn? probably. chopin? absolutely. wagner? no and iām kinkshaming.
I had a dream recently...
That I was out playing pokemon go, and people all over the world had started seeing this new pokemon popping up. Like out of nowhere this little thing started appearing occasionally. No word from Nyantic or The Pokemon Company about when or why they had released it. The pokemon was calledĀ āsleepytiredā and it looked like this.
And you couldnāt catch it, the ball would just go straight through it. People were data mining and shit trying to figure out how to catch this thing but they couldnāt. Eventually they would just have to give up and leave the encounter.Ā After a few weeks of people reporting sightings of it, and no word from Nyantic, some creepy shit started happeningā¦
What started happening was, if you entered an encounter with aĀ āsleepytiredā with the AR on it would manifest in the real world. But it wouldnāt do anything. It would just float there, watching.Ā
So people being curious started doing this whenever they could, and these things would just manifest and stay there. Obviously this was causing problems because these things would just be floating menacingly in local parks and in the local McDonald. And they couldnāt be moved, because anyone who tried to move them or touch them would be struck by sudden, intense, chronic fatigue that seemingly had no cure.Ā
The last part of the dream I remember was watching a news broadcast telling people that pokemon go was now illegal, and to avoid touching or disturbing the creepy little things that are now just about everywhere.

A few years ago, when I was still in an all-girls catholic high school, one of my teachers told us in her weekly āitās just a phaseā lectures that lesbian relationships are toxic because unlike a man and a woman, two women understand each other completely, thus, making it harder for one to break up with the other, resulting in them being trapped in a lesbian relationship for the rest of their lives just because they got too cozy with having a partner that supports and cares for them.
Anyway can you imagine being straight and thinking that people understanding their partners needs are toxic im so glad i cant relate
youāll be cursed by happiness
āDonāt be a lesbian your partner will actually respect you and care about your feelings and make you feel goodā
Mr. Bennet: So, I've decided from now on, I want to spend every moment I can with the things I cherish most. So, I'll be in my study with my books. Try not to bother me.
