(this is all my own head-canons obviously, and not super detailed, but its just some thoughts i think about for my AU lol)
quints are cat-coded heavily to me (other than earth ghouls who may also have feline quirks), so they have lotta blankets and pillows, probably stolen from other ghouls if they want a specific scent.
Phantom stole some from the resident linen closet when he first arrived cuz he didn't know anyone well yet, but once he and Rain got together and before they shared a room, he defo stole a shirt or two, and he in turn probably gave Rain one of his, OR he bought a lil plushie, snuggled it for a month and THEN gave it to Rain.
Rain probably picked up on the habits and did the same lol; bro doesn't know how to go about this so he's just copy and pasting.
quint nesting is more like shoving a bed in the corner or just placing the mattress on the floor completely and just having the items haphazardly spread out, with special items held close as the ghoul sleeps. whether thats clothing, plushie, pillow, a partner or even a baby-it all is wrapped up in the quint's furry little paws.
and yeah, there's purring because OF COURSE-
nesting when pregnant.
Aurora mercilessly hogged every article of clothing Swiss owned and made her own lil seperate area for whenever she felt overwhelmed or whatever, and Swiss just let it happen even though she would steal stuff straight from the dirty laundry...
once the kit(s) arrive, they are sometimes left with an article from both parents if they're napping and aren't close to them at that moment, so they know the scents.
Phantom and Aether were very particular when making their nests for their incoming babies.
Aether made sure that Clarity had arms length access to EVERYTHING from her spot, and that it was also easy to get out quickly. (theres a poly-ship with Aether, Dew and an OC of mine cuz i couldn't decide so i mashed them all together; its very cute shhh)
Phantom was helicopter partner especially when Rain would flare up real bad and couldn't move, so he would take extra care of how easy it is to move and how supportive it should be for Rain.
Air ghouls have some sort of literal nest, like avians; circular and maybe Copia spoils them with those really cool bed sheets that have those built-in foam barrier things (they exist, trust..)
Still lots of blankets and pillows, mostly for forming the nest, i tihnk they are neutral when it comes to temperature (again depending if they're designed after actual animal, im not a bird expert lmao), so oftentimes they don't even use a blanket for cover. if they're cold, they can use one of course, but also a warm partner always helps too.
earth ghouls, like i mentioned, kinda nest like quints. Mountain straight up got rid of his bed, bough himself a bigass mattress and hung up his plants around on the ceiling and his tapestries drape over and around the nest for extra containment space. he also shoved it to the corner conveniently by the window, so he can uhhhh air out his smoking so he doesn't ruin his clean space and fuck up his plants.
everyone unanimously agrees that Mounty's bed is the comfiest.
water ghouls... don't seem to "nest" per se. if they lived in water, they would probably use their environment to make lil beds, but since they live in the Abbey, they just kinda... sleep normally. sometimes they get too cold or hot and thats an easy fix.
same with fire; if they were able to, some would happily be napping in an open fireplace, but the last time that happened, they almost had a problem...
now cut to Dewdrop and Rain with their quint partners and having to deal with being cuddled heavily by fluffy ghouls, and trying to get them off during the hotter seasons...
oh my gosh, and then the kits getting older and making their own nests in their own beds, suited to their personalities????

Bonus: When Omega and Terzo recieved Luna, bro went HAM on nesting and parenting. He had never been one and wanted to do it right. even if Terzo thought it could too much sometimes, he let it happen because it made his ghoul and their kit happy.
