The young couple sat apart on their couch, both leaning on the armrests. Mindless videos played on the TV.Β
Eddie was drinking an energy drink to prepare for his night shift, and Clayton had taken his medication about an hour prior.
Β Clayton was feeling tired, but Eddie enjoyed spending the time with him before he had to go in.Β
Clayton was barely paying attention to the screen in front of them, as his antipsychotics continued to slow his internal processes down.Β
Eddie had grown used to watching Claytonβs mental decline after he dosed himself. He was familiar with the stages. First, his wrists began to twitch. Then, his expression flattened just like his tone.Β
Something else Eddie picked up on was that Clayton sometimes drooled. Not all the time, but after he took his pills, heβd notice it more. Wiping the corners of his lips, eyes darting around to make sure Eddie didnβt see it.Β
Eddie saw it. He knew Clayton did a lot of things that he didnβt think were noticed. He wished heβd just tell him instead of trying to hide it and pretend it wasnβt happeningβ it wasnβt working in Claytonβs favor.
Eddie reached to grip onto Clayβs thigh, squeezing. Hearing a shaky sigh, he glanced over to his boyfriend.Β
Claytonβs eyes were half closed, breath heavy as he tried not to fall asleep. He felt the touch, but barely registered it as more than an accidental tap.Β
Eddie saw glistening on his lower lip, and felt like now was a good time to bring up what heβd been thinking about.Β
βYouβre drooling.β Eddie informed Clayton, as if it were a purposeful action.Β
βWh- huh? Am I-?β Clayton half snapped out of his haze, raising a hand to wipe his mouth. His cheeks heated up as he failed to find the lie.Β
βYeah, Clay.β Eddie answered what he already knew, the expression not offering any kind of reassurance or warmth. βAre you good?β
βUh- yeah, Iβm alright,β Clayton attempted to exit the conversation, but Eddie was just beginning. βSorry,β he apologized.
βDo your pills make you drool?β Eddie asked, not paying mind to Claytonβs previous discomfort.Β
Clayton thought for a moment. βUhβhuh, usually happensβon these meds,βΒ
βSounds like an annoying side effect. Youβve been on this one forβ¦ a month now, right?β
βYeah. It's just like one I had as a teen,β He answered. βThey made me drool- Iβd pass out not too long after takinβ emβ,β He held his hand up and pinched. βHuge pills, too.β
βUgh. Those make me choke. You couldnβt use a pill cutter?β Eddie asked him, fingers interlacing. Whatever was playing on the TV was far from his interest now.Β
βNope. My dose was too big, I wasn't allowed half pills. Anβ speaking of that,β Clayton rolled his shoulders. βWhen I was in the ward, they had me up on some crazy shit, Iβve told you about that stuff.β
βRight,β Eddie nodded his head, pressing his lips together. He was intrigued with the topic.
βAnother side effect I had was this shit called dysphagia. Made it hard to swallow anything after Iβd had my dose. The techs had to uh- give me the heimlich one time.β Clayton paused.Β
βWhat happened?β Eddie asked quickly, leaning on one fist. His interest peaked, but there was something deeper pulling him to question his experiences.
βWe were allowed snacks after night meds, and it was right when it would hit hardest- I think it was the second night when I noticed it. Iβd try to swallow but it wouldnβt work, and if the bite was big enough, it would get stuck.β Clayton rubbed his neck, frowning at the memory. βI was able to handle it and usually either- like- gag it back up or fight it down,β
Eddie nodded. His curiosity piqued as he listened in, not trying to make his interest obvious. βWow, dude, youβve never told me about this.β He said, taking a sip of his monster.
βYeah- I dunno, itβs just one of those thingsβ¦ Itβs gotten a lot better since I was a teen but- It still fuckinβ sucks.β Clayton sighed, turning his head as Eddie began to move. βJust really wish the pros outweighed the cons with these pills,β
βYou said they had to save you once, right?β Eddie asked, getting up from the couch. βDo tell, Clay,β His volume increased as he walked away, disappearing into the kitchen.Β
βWell- it was the same as any other time, except I couldnβt cough it up. String cheese is what did it. We were watching βSheβs the Manβ-β Clayton began.Β
βThatβs a deep cut,β Eddie laughed, opening a cabinet and pulling something out.Β
βTheir DVD binder was ancient, thatβs for sure- anyways, I was laying back, taking my time, but it got stuck,β Clayton droned, his eyes unfocusing.Β
βIt wasnβt coming out when I coughed, though. Someone noticed what was happening. They yanked me up, did the heimlich,β
Clayton trailed off, face shifting into loss. βThen I guess I was fine,β
Eddie came out of the kitchen, holding onto a box of crackers. βDo you not remember?β Eddie asked, going back to the couch to sit down.Β
βNot really. The only thing I really remember is the feeling of not being able to swallow-β Claytonβs eyes refocused. βBut thatβs just because itβs happening now.βΒ
βThe brain is a weird, weird thing,β Eddie opened the cardboard, obtaining a cracker and taking a bite.Β
βBut you havenβt actually choked since starting these meds again, right?β He asked, tone darkening. He took another sip of his energy drink.Β
Clayton took a breath before responding. βNo, I havenβt, but I know it could happen.β He shifted, turning his attention back to the garbage playing on their TV.Β
βHm,β Eddie set his can down on the coffee table. βHow do you know?β He asked, leaning back on the couch.Β
Clayton was caught slightly off guard by the question. βWhat do you mean?β
βI mean,β Eddie repositioned himself, crossing his legs and setting the box on his thigh. βWhat if itβs just the anxiety thatβs making it hard to swallow?β
Clayton paused, staring at Eddie with confusion. βI donβt think-... no, it canβt be just anxiety, it only happens when I take those meds.βΒ
βAnxiety can do that, you know- it makes sense too. You had a bad experience last time you took these pills- your brain is probably just trying to protect you when it doesnβt need to.β Eddie spoke as if he was completely correct, causing Clayton to feel unsure.Β
βI donβt really know, Ed. Itβs a really specific feeling that happens like- right here,β Clayton pointed to above his Adamβs Apple.Β
βYeah, right- I know, itβs the exact place you feel a lump when youβre nervous, right?β Eddie tilted his head, pulling out another few crackers.Β
βWell- yeah, itβs the same area-β Clayton started, but was cut off.Β
βItβs the same thing, Clay. I think youβre psyching yourself out more than you need to,β Eddie cocked his eyebrows, examining the look on Claytonβs face.Β
Clayton wasnβt sure how to feel, or to respond. He didnβt really believe Eddie, and he didnβt want to throw his caution to the wind because it might be anxiety.Β
His silence didnβt push Eddie to stop prodding. He wanted to see if Clayton was being just dramatic about it, or if he really had a reason to be afraid.Β
βTry some crackers.β Eddie held the food out in the direction of Clayton, who stared at it like it was poison.Β
βThatβs like- one of the worst ones to try-β Clayton didnβt reach to take them, he just stared with his eyebrows furrowed.Β
βWhat, crackers? Cβmon, man. You can drink a smoothie but canβt have a saltine?β Eddie belittled, laughing.Β
βTheyβre two totally different consistencies, dude.β Clayton remained still, unsure if the laughing was directed at him.Β Β
βYouβre acting like an old man. Itβs not that serious, you just need to try.β Eddie pushed the crackers into Claytonβs hand, forcing him to take it.Β
βYou know what, Ed, I really donβt want to do this.β Clayton expressed his genuine discomfort, but it wasnβt met with the same concern.Β
βWhyβre you making a big deal? Itβs two crackers. Youβre acting like youβre gonna die.β Eddie scoffed, taking some more crackers out of the box for himself. βItβs easy, just look.β He bit into a chip, and chewed.Β
βI donβt want to risk it,β Clayton continued, frowning.Β
Eddie swallowed his food, and took an exaggerated gasp. βOh my god! Iβm alive.βΒ
βYouβre not taking me seriously, dude.β Clayton disliked the pressure he was feeling. He didnβt think it was a big deal either, but it shouldnβt be such a problem to express a boundary.Β
βListen, Clay. If anything happens, Iβll be right here.β Eddieβs tone shifted into a comforting one, which made Claytonβs head feel even worse. βBut nothing is gonna happen. Itβs beenβ¦ how many years since the last time?βΒ
Clayton hesitated before answering, feeling his brief certainty ebb away with Eddieβs words. βAlmost ten years.βΒ
Eddie laughed again. βTen years, man. Thatβs a long time to be afraid.βΒ
Clayton furrowed his brows, but kept quiet. He didnβt feel like going back and forth with Eddie over something as stupid as crackers.Β
The TV droned on in the background, Clayton glanced at the crackers in his hand. His appetite made them resemble cardboard more than something edible.
If Claytonβs brain were anything more than mush right now, he wouldβve fought more for his ground. Every word he spoke felt like trying to shovel tar.Β
Eddie wasnβt interested in the silence. He prodded, despite Claytonβs clear hesitance. βAre you trying to make them disappear with your mind?βΒ
Clayton groaned. βJesus Christ, Ed! Give me a fuckinβ second to think, why are you being like this?β The most energy Clayton had given all hour just came out, and he knew it didnβt have the desired effect.Β Β
βItβs been a minute since youβve moved, I just wanted to make sure you didnβt die overthinking about it.β Eddie knew that what he was saying would push Clayton. That was his goal.
βGod. Youβre soβ¦ whatever. Whatever, man.β Clayton sighed, lifting the crackers up to his face. He didnβt want to hear anything more about what Eddie thought he knew.Β
Dread creeped up Claytonβs spine as he popped a cracker into his mouth. He began to chew slowly, before sliding the second one in after.Β
Eddie stared at him, savoring the first moments like he just won a debate. βNot that bad, huh?βΒ
Clayton glared at Eddie from the side. βTastes like paper.β He said through his bite, trying to focus on his chewing.Β
He felt uncomfortable from Eddieβs unbreaking stare, it wasnβt helping his self consciousness. He tried to focus regardless.Β
The time Clayton was taking made Eddie impatient. He had exceeded the standard 20 chews by at least double that amount already. βAny slower and youβll digest it.β
The comment bothered Clayton more than it shouldβve. His jaw clenched, eyebrows furrowing at Eddieβs pressure.Β
The tension made it hard for Clay to focus on what he needed to, and he wanted more to snap at Eddie than to be careful. Readying a response, Clayton swallowed his bite.Β
He tried to, anyway.Β
His tongue swept the food to the back of his throat, but the reflex that brought food down failed to work. Within a second of attempting, Clayton realized that the food hadnβt gone down. He could still breathe, but he couldnβt speak.
Clayton was suddenly entirely focused on the danger stuck in his gullet. His throat bobbed as he attempted to swallow again, but nothing happened.Β
Eddie noticed the look on Claytonβs face. He tilted his head, noting how deep and deliberate each breath he took was. βWhatβs that face for?β
Clayton couldnβt respond even if he wanted to. He could feel his eyebrow twitch, trying to swallow repeatedly. It felt like his muscles had turned off.Β
Claytonβs hand raised to his neck, touching the skin right over his Adams apple. He still hadnβt looked at Eddie since this happened.
βUh oh, are you alright?β Eddieβs tone wasnβt entirely serious, but he noticed the vibe shift. It wasn't one he could play off as humorous.Β
Clayton held a finger up at Eddie, attempting once more to fight the food down. The motion caused the obstruction to shift, tickling his gag reflex. It triggered a sudden coughing fit.
βOh- shoot,β Eddie didnβt anticipate that sudden reaction. He reached out to pat his back a few times, eyebrows lowering in concern. βCβmon, dude. Cough it up,βΒ
Clayton didnβt like the touch, but he couldnβt verbally protest. As his lungs depleted, he sucked in another replenishing breath- but the worst occurred.Β
Β βSclk-β The force of the gasp caused the food to shoot to the opening of his trachea. Claytonβs heart sank to his stomach.
βYou good, man?β Eddie asked, too little too late. He was starting to have a hard time blaming drama for the others reaction.Β
Clayton barely noticed the words spoken to him, his full focus was on the complete block in his throat. His mouth gaped, nothing but a sickly wheeze rewarded him.Β
Calling this "just anxietyβ was insulting. If he could manage a breath, heβd waste it all on a panic attack. Nothing about the prior argument mattered anymore, Clayton just wished that he wouldβve stood his ground.Β
βAre you choking?β Eddie asked, his voice noticeably smaller. He remained in his seat, the air around him tense.Β
Clayton nodded firmly, feeling his face redden from the pressure. His hand clutched his throat, knuckles white.Β
Eddie felt it was necessary to confirm again. βAre you being serious?β
Clayton couldnβt keep himself still, he felt like he was alone. He stumbled out of his position, using the table to help him up to his feet. His head pounded with adrenaline, making him briefly forget his lethargy.Β
Eddie got up right after him. βHang on- hold still, let me help you!β He shouted, grabbing at Claytonβs arm.Β
βI canβt breathe, I canβt-β
Clayton felt like his head was going to explode. He was doubled over, retching uselessly. He took some unconscious steps away, wavering unsteadily from the shock.Β
βDude! Get over here-!β Eddie wasnβt going to wait for Clayton to listen, it was clear he was focused on other things. Eddie moved around the coffee table, finally able to get a hold on Claytonβs sweater.Β
Eddie pulled the other right into his arms, scrambling to keep him steady. He caught a glance of his pale face, feeling the weight of realityΒ Β
Β βHe never fuckinβ listens to me,β Claytonβs mind ran. He felt separated from his body, almost enough to ignore the feeling of arms wrapped around his lower ribcage.Β
βI was just messinβ with you, Clay!β Eddie spoke up, his voice exasperated. Clayton was pressed against his front, he could feel every oxygen starved twitch deeper than he shouldβve.Β
Tightening his fist just a bit too high above Claytonβs navel, Eddie aggressively thrusted back and up into Clayβs diaphragm. He felt a sickening snap.
βGRK-!β A strangled expression of pain escaped Claytonβs throat. He felt an agonizing twinge at the bottom of his ribs, further irritated by the continued hold.Β
Β βFuck- Iβm sorry!β Eddieβs heart dropped, quickly realizing what heβd done. In a swift movement, he readjusted to where he was supposed to be.
Pulling back gently to ensure he wasnβt going to further break his bones, Eddie noted the tension Clayton had in his body. His abdomen wasnβt soft, it was strained as his body fought for consciousness and air.Β
Claytonβs diaphragm convulsed, the pain dissolving and mixing with the desperation. His purple lips sparkled with numbness- he was sure this was it.Β
βIβm going to suffocate,β Clayton thought, his eyes were starting to roll. He couldnβt feel the tears sliding down his face. The pain emanating from his ribcage felt like fire, and he couldnβt do a thing about it.Β
Eddie savored enough of what he could, tasting every second of his boyfriend's struggle. He broke himself out of his trance, and thrusted into Clayton again. He didnβt feel any broken bones this time.Β
Their bodies pressed together briefly, Claytonβs ass pushing against Eddieβs groin. It made his stomach flutter. Even in the motion, he could feel the otherβs inability to keep still.Β
βHeβs movinβ so much,β Eddie was having a hard time keeping his mind out of the gutter. The friction masked the warmth rushing to his crotch, he didnβt notice the growing erection in his pants.Β
Eddie thrusted again, again, and again. He leaned forwards briefly, stopping to check Claytonβs face.Β
The skin around his eyes and mouth were blue. Eddie felt a lot more frantic suddenly.Β
βFuck- I didnβt think youβd actually choke!β The words slipped out of him, not really thinking anymore. He resumed his original position, fists curling into Claytonβs softening abdomen.Β
Despite Claytonβs slipping consciousness, he heard what Eddie had to say. If he had any more energy to spend, heβd punch the shit out of him.Β
He could barely see through the tears collecting in his eyes, he was certain that these were his last moments awake on earth.Β
As Eddie thrusted, Clay felt a shift in his throat. βHuk-β The noise was forced out of him, he had no control of his vocal chords.Β
Clayton was able to suck in air as if he were breathing through a coffee stirrer. It wasnβt what he needed, but it made things clearer for the moment.Β
His mind quieted down enough to notice something he was feeling, not in his own body but right behind him. Another heimlich thrust forced him up off his feet, squeezing another choked sound from him. βGhn..β
As the pressure let off, Clay realized what he was feeling on the back of his pants. βIsβ¦ is he hard right now?β
Eddie reacted positively to the sounds. βYes- there you go! Can you breathe?β He sounded ecstatic, although it was a little too early to celebrate. He paused the heimlich, wanting to make sure he wasnβt unnecessarily harming the other.Β
Clayton shook his head sharply, focusing on sucking as much air in as he could. The oxygen deprivation made it difficult for him to think straight. βNn... Noo-βΒ
βThatβs okay- youβre fine, can you cough?β Eddie kept his hold on Clayton, not putting any pressure on his irritated ribs, but not letting him go.Β
βHelp, please help,β Clayton shook his head again, warmth rushing to it as he wheezed. He wanted Eddie to continue thrusting, he didnβt know that he had stopped for his own safety.Β
βJust try to cough- youβre doing great, Clay, just try to cough,β Eddie had shifted his mindset into taking care of this issue, and planned to deal with what occurred before when the danger was away.Β
Clayton was still feeling distressed, but he couldnβt protest what Eddie was doing. Mustering up some drive, he attempted to clear his throat with a cough.Β
It was dry and painful, and it didnβt sound like it was helpful. Eddie could hear the obstruction shift as he hacked. Claytonβs back tensed, he was running out of the air heβd worked so hard to get back.Β
βGood job, Clay. Youβre okay, youβre passing air,β Eddie reassured him. He felt Clayton waver as he attempted to inhale, his ribcage shaking with the strain. βKeep it up,β
Eddie heard the stridor of Claytonβs windpipe, cringing at the noise. He strengthened his support, keeping the other as steady as possible. As he repositioned, he finally felt the familiar tightness in his jeans.Β
Blood rushed to his cheeks, his fluster peaking up even through this dire moment. For a moment, his mind went entirely blank. He was going to assess these feelings later, after danger was far away.
βHhuh-β¦ hel-,β Claytonβs need was dire, he didnβt understand why Eddie had stopped trying to assist in the way he was. Every movement made him shift against what he was trying to ignore, and the slight oxygen he received was making him overly antsy.
βJust focus on coughing, Clay,β Eddie said softly, holding him steady. βIf I try to help you now, it might get worse,β He leaned forward a little bit, trying to get a better look at his face. It appeared that blood had made its way back to his head, his cheeks and the skin around was all red. His eyes were still huge, pleading for this to stop.
Clayton wanted nothing more than for Eddie to assist. He couldnβt wrap his mind around why he stopped, but he couldnβt ask. He heaved, forcefully coughing as hard as he could.
As seconds passed, Clayton hadnβt yet cleared his airway. Anxiety prickled in Eddieβs head, the seconds that passed stretching into apparent hours. Even though he was breathing, it wasnβt enough.Β
Clayton wavered in Eddieβs grasp, fighting the gravity that was pulling him down. His vision was spinning, every gasp that tore through his obstructed throat made the oxygen desperation more painful.
βFuckβ¦β Eddie grumbled, beginning to reposition himself back to where he just was. βYouβre doing good, justβ¦β He crossed his fingers over his left fist right over Claytonβs bruised stomach, before swiftly pulling back once more.
The air Clayton had been fighting for actually helped when Eddie gave him another abdominal thrust, forcing the obstruction loose from its wedge. A choked noise crawled from his throat. He doubled over and hacked, nearly knocking Eddie off balance from the speed.
What Clayton coughed up onto the floor seemed incredibly small compared to the fight for life he just experienced, but he wasnβt focusing on that right now. He lost the strength to keep himself up, his knees buckling.
βHoly fuck, Clay- hang on, I got you,β Eddie fastened his grip around Clayton after the issue was cleared, trying to help him avoid hitting the ground.Β
The movement sent shooting pains through Claytonβs ribcage. He couldnβt keep himself from whining in agonyβ the only thing that quieted him down was his oxygen deprivation. βNnghβ¦ ow-β
Eddie loosened his hold on Clayton, still keeping his shaking form from falling. Guilt began to creep up his back.Β
βAre you alright..?β Eddie said softly, breaking the near silence. He was bearing most of Claytonβs weight,Β
Clayton was catching his breath as he was questioned, still regaining the feeling in his hands and legs βPut me downβ¦β he wheezed.
Eddie didnβt think he heard him right. βWhat?β He asked, leaning in to get another look at Claytonβs expression.Β
βPut me-,β he rasped, grasping at Eddieβs wrists. βPut me down,βΒ
βAlright, give me a second,β Eddie carefully walked back over to the couch they were sitting on just a few minutes prior, and slowly led Clayton back down onto it.Β
Eddie guided Clayton to sit on him once he was on the couch, but Clayton was moving as soon as he was let go of. He pulled himself off Eddie, managing to make his way back to his side. He was shaky, slow, and whimpering with every movement.Β
βFuckβ¦ uhn- fuck-,β Clayton grasped at his abdomen. He was having a hard time concealing his pain, he had no time to process what just happened before something else started to worsen.Β
βAre you okay?β Eddie asked quietly, still shaking from the adrenaline. The TV was silent now, the video they were watching had ended during the commotion.
Clayton refused to make eye contact with Eddie. He kept trying to put pressure on the indescribable ache of his lower ribs, but every shiftβ every breathβ made the pain hotter.
βIt hurts,β Claytonβs voice was broken, shredded from the lifesaving efforts. He remained curled in on himself, knees bent loosely.Β
Eddie bit his lip. βYouβre alright, babe, here- uh,β he reached out to touch Claytonβs shoulder in distant comfort. βMaybe we should go to the ER,β
Clayton didnβt respond. He stared off into the carpet, unable to ignore the stinging in his throat. A deep bruise was forming under his ribs.Β
The pressure that Eddie put on him right before everything went wrong fueled the near shutdown of Claytonβs mind after the immediate danger was away.Β
βClayton?β Eddie cut the brief silence, noticing the apparent dissociation his boyfriend was experiencing. βDo you need help grounding?β
Clayton wasnβt feeling dissociative, he was angry. βI fuckinβ told you,β he started, taking an unsteady breath. βI told you I didnβt want to do that-β
Eddie felt the sudden need to defend himself from his recently traumatized boyfriend. βNo way, dude- donβt make this my fault,βΒ
βEddie- I told you, and you just-β more tears started to form in Claytonβs eyes, shedding over the internal pain he was feeling.
Eddie retracted his hand from Claytonβs shoulder. βYou couldβve just- not eaten it, Clay,β his tone diminished the severity of what just happened. βYou couldβve told me no,β
Clayton had to clear his throat to avoid coughing.Β He winced at the movement, pain from his damaged ribcage making every shift unbearable. He mumbled a curse to himself.Β
βI did-... You pushed me..!β He raised his voice, causing it to crack. βYou told me it was in my head, itβs just anxiety!βΒ
βI was just joking around with you,β Eddieβs brows furrowed, taking only a moment to notice his pained expression. He didnβt want to apologize. βYou didnβt have to eat it if you really didnβt want to-β
βI wasnβt laughing,β Clayton quieted down significantly, unable to suppress the pain for this unnecessary argument. βIt wasnβt funny at all,β
βI get that-β Eddie fidget with his hands, appearing restless. βListen, we should really go to the emergency room,β He didnβt enjoy watching Clayton sit with the physical pain.
βFuck- why would make me do that, Eddie?β Clayton was quickly spiraling, shedding tears over the broken trust. He wanted Eddie to apologize and comfort him, not argue over a crossed boundary.Β
βI didnβt do anything,β Eddie began to get up from the couch. He stood in front of Clayton, holding his hand out to help him stand. βCome on, dude, letβs go,β
The dismissal hurt Clayton further, the emotion tearing a broken sob from him. βYou broke my ribs,β for the first time, he made brief eye contact.Β
βI didnβt mean- FUCK!β Eddieβs own feelings exploded, he turned around and took some steps away. βI was trying to fucking save you, Clay! Thatβs why Iβm trying to go to the ER!β He felt unable to contain his voice, feeling frustrated with the inability to brush this off.Β
Clayton continued to cry, feeling unable to argue back with Eddie. His head sank, blinking tears into his own lap. He felt incredibly alone at this moment.Β
The silence Eddie had to sit with caused the guilt to rise up again. It was hard to argue with someone who couldnβt give you anything good back.Β
He found it difficult to endure the sounds of crying. After a few painful seconds of watching him, Eddie spit out a sad apology. βIβm sorry that happened, I didnβt- I didnβt want to hurt youβ
Clayton still needed time to feel what he was feeling before accepting anything. He took a shaky breath in, still sore from the prior abuse. He reached up and wiped his eyes.Β
βItβs hard to breathe,β He squeaked, keeping his gaze to himself. Every shift reminded him of what just happened, it was impossible to ignore.Β
Eddie blinked slowly, fighting the urge to reignite the argument. βCan we go to the ER, please?β His tone sounded edged with frustration, losing the patience he never had.Β
Clayton was clearly favoring silence over responsiveness. The medications heβd taken had once again become impossible to ignore, causing him slight dissociation. Eddie wasnβt understanding.Β
βClay,β Eddie spoke up, walking back over to his area on the couch. He held his hand out. βPlease, babe, we need to go in,β
A muffled grunt came from Clayton. βDonβt you have work?β He asked, beginning to loosen his posture.Β
βIβm calling out,β Eddie answered, waving his hand to try and get Clayton to look up at him. βIβve gotta take care of you,β
Clayton laughed emptily, no smile accompanying the sound. Eddieβs words still hurt even when he was trying to help. With a flat expression, he reached out and grabbed onto him.
Eddie gripped, gently pulling him up to his feet. He didnβt let go once he was up, placing his hands on Claytonβs sides to help him stay up. βDo you need to get anything before we go?β He asked, glancing up to the front door.Β
Clayton found talking to be nearly unbearable as he stood. He clenched his teeth together, breath shaking as he steadied himself. βNnβ¦ no,β thinking about walking made him nauseous.Β
βAlright, that's cool, letβs, uh-β Eddie reached down to grab his energy drink. βLetβs get going,β he spoke like they were going to the grocery store. He began to walk, guiding the other with him.Β
Clayton didnβt register the words, he just moved when movement occurred. Each step sent fire through his ribcage. There wasnβt any kind of position he could stay in that kept the pain away.Β
The effects of his medication dulled his perceptions and expressions, but not the stress his body just went through. He needed someone to help him feel safe, not someone who made him feel bad for almost dying.Β
They both exited the home, Eddie locking the door behind them. Full dissociation had taken over Claytonβs mind, and he wasnβt in any mood to talk.Β
Eddie didnβt necessarily want to talk either, so the silence continued. His head replayed the incident that occurred, unable to place the frustration on a single party.
The sounds of footsteps on the concrete aided Clayton more than anything. The voices in his head werenβt comforting, Eddie was just a crutch.
Clayton almost wished he hadnβt been saved.

It is a NSFW equivalent of Patreon. There are tiers you can subscribe to in order to earn different benefits. My page currently has two tiers:
$5 Tier - This will get you NSFW version of public images, WIPs of illustrations, subscriber-exclusive illustrations, and polls to choose characters and scenarios for future content.
$10 Tier - This will get you everything from the $5 tier as well as WIPs of comics, NSFW comic pages, and subscriber-exclusive comics.
What's on there right now?
At the moment there is almost everything that used to be available on Gumroad. There are censored/uncensored versions of comics, like Lake Calehad, and illustration collections, like Meditation Gone Wrong. The page is still pretty new but will be added to regularly.

This very epic drama written and commissioned by @birdofcauthon14 of their characters Ylva (rescuer) and Dani (rescued) in which a truck smashes into the side of a hospital building and starts a chemical fire, resulting in a pretty intense rescue
