Random thoughts on the Assassin's Creed series that is part of my hot take is that despite people labelling only the later games to be "RPG games", mainline Assassin's Creed is more RPG than people would think, at least if you look past the notion that Levels are mandatory for RPGs to be called RPGs and realize a lot of video games not labelled as an RPG in general (not all) are secretly RPGs that uses algebra to pretend that there aren't RPG numerical stat values present at all.
The later games in the AC games just commit to being more in line with the general, narrower, perspective of what RPGs are, not knowing prior games are already better RPGs by not forcing themselves to be what people think RPGs are.
Algebra does a good job fooling people.
