ANYWAY. yeah i can talk about filbo and benjiff a bit!!!! much like the game’s canon cast with various character motives defined by desperation, benjiff joined the expedition to snaktooth island after hitting dead end after dead end with his entomology dissertation. when he heard the rumor of these creatures called bugsnax, he thought it could be exactly the research opportunity he was seeking!
this expedition was where benjiff met filbo for the first time. for a matter of months, their relationship was cordial but not particularly close. benjiff was near-singularly focused on his research—filbo admired his drive, but didn’t have the self confidence to truly push for a friendship, let alone anything deeper, with him. lizbert’s disappearance was the major catalyst that brought them closer together. the resulting near-immediate dysfunction in the expedition group was a major wake up call for benjiff, and he quickly devoted more energy to helping filbo restore the camp. he treasured that filbo’s friendly and optimistic nature shone through despite the circumstances, and began to develop romantic feelings for him as the two got closer throughout the ordeal. they ended up getting together post-game after returning to new grump city :)

I think there is something so beautiful, so innocent and sweet about spotting or discovering that f/o or comfort character. Looking into them and having that warmth grow within you, where you just know they're gonna mean something so significant, they're going to hold so much importance.
I feel like we get so caught up in cringe culture, we get so wrapped up in how "embarrassed" we're "supposed" to feel.
But I don't think selfshipping is embarrassing. I think that finding a character that makes you feel so comforted, finding happiness and appreciation in that connection you'd share with them is genuinely so heartwarming. And I feel like that isn't talked about enough.
If you selfship, if you have comfort characters or f/os, you're not embarrassing. You're not any of the mean, shameful things other try to make you feel. You're a person who is passionate and full of love for that passion, and that's okay. You're valid and you deserve that peace.
