bobe said to me “my hips feel weird and hurt when im at work a long time” and i said here try these $4 neoprene hip stabilizers i got from china and she came back from work the next day, gave me a fat thumbs up, and said “game changer”. so idk what every doctor in the world is doing but apparently its not medicine
i have a socio-historical theory that the extreme prevalence of assistive garments prior to modernity that was basically wiped out in the american and european midcentury is related to the rise of neoliberal ideas of how your body should “just work” and if it doesnt its because you arent taking responsibility for your own functional physicality, ie, physical exercise and conditioning, orthorexia, “strengthening exercises “ etc. the number of times i have heard people tell me assistive garments and braces and crutches would create “dependency” ie addiction, which is a failure state. one of the best things i did for my relationship to doctors was to get a large dog who has to be walked twice a day. it has been the ONLY thing i have ever said to a doctor that convinced them i wasnt just lying to them for fun about my level of activity. and you know what else? the increased routine exercise DID NOT improve my health. not at all!
anyway yes physical therapy and conditioning is effective and generally good, what is also good is when i physically correct functional deficits in my body with tools and materials that prevent worsening injuries but whatever
