Don’t think we appreciate enough how tlt escalates between the first two books. By the time the literal God of this universe is vaporising in and out of existence and demons borne of a rogue dead planet’s soul are coming for all the main characters like it’s fucking wh40k, it’s easy to forget that about a novel and a half ago this was basically just a sci fi murder mystery with serious gay undertones.
