When I scheduled the consult, I made sure they understood that I needed to discuss costs. I just hope they listen.

I need to be able to prepare for my inevitable financial ruin.

Super simple procedure. They yeet a laser into one eye at a time. No special requirements from me, i'm awake for the whole thing. Downtime is about 2hrs per eye, and it's just blurry. It's a permanent fix, so I won't have to do it again.

Insurance is EXPECTED to cover it entirely but it may not. They're supposed to have a financial/insurance specialist reach out a couple of weeks before the surgeries to discuss that information and options.

Looking over my insurance it's very likely I'm on the hook for 30% of the costs because this isn't listed as one of their 100% covered preventative procedures.

Context: The insides of my eyes are too small, and the fluid can't move around properly. This could result in an acute glaucoma episode if the fluid became trapped, and I could suddenly go blind for life. This is called angle closure glaucoma, and the procedures in question are referred to as LPIs.

so I just got The Call from their finance specialist. Insurance does cover the procedure(s).

It DOES NOT cover the doctor's fee and facility fee. Now, an important piece of context: as it stands, this surgeon does one eye at a time to reduce patient stress and impact. Cause for most people, not being able to see for two hours means you aren't driving. I don't drive, so this is a nonissue.

Per eye, the Dr's fee is $312.55. This fee is due at the time of final confirmation of the surgery, which is typically a week before the procedure.

Also per eye, the facility fee is $250, due at time of operation.

This totals out to $1,125.10. I am scheduled for surgery on June 7th and 9th.

I have enough money to pay my bills and feed myself for the next 2, possibly 3 weeks. I have a work event at the end of the month in which I will be feeding myself via takeout and whatever Free Food I can get my hands on because I will be a state away from home. And then I have surgery.

That amount up there is worst case scenario.

Best case scenario, I get approved to do both eyes at once. This is at the surgeon's discretion, and this adjustment has been requested already, but there's no guarantee.

In this event, I pay for the cost of one and a half eyeballs, or approximately $842. $850 if we want to make it a nice round number.

That's still more than I can actually afford in *any* month.

$468.83 would be due at the time of final confirmation. $375 at time of service.

With how fast this is all happening, I actually can't wait on crowdfunding services like gofundme because their processing times are simply too long for what I have to do. If anyone knows of any with short turn arounds (we're talking like 1-2 business days), please DM me - I want to try to do this in a more organized way if possible. Until then, here we go:

Yeah it absolutely sucks altho tbh I'm not very surprised by the results as the elections were rigged in the first place. The Marcoses return to power has been planned since Duterte became president in 2016, the multi-million disinformation campaign, the media shut down, silencing of protestors etc., a lot of things were done to ensure his win. To be honest I dislike the international coverage of these elections since a lot of them put the blame on Filipino voters not knowing how democracy works when the Philippines has been controlled by political dynasties for decades. It's hardly democractic.

Filipinos in the diaspora can help by going to protests in your local community and non-filipinos can help by helping preserve documents against the Marcos regime. This means keeping physical and digital copies of books like Dekada 70, Conjugal Dictatorship, Marcos Martial Law: Never Again, The Jupiter Effect etc. There's a possibility these books will be banned. The Marcoses stay in power because they're good at rewriting history, preserving them is essential.

I am a Esk'etemc/Secwépemc First Nations/Hungarian Romani disabled woman who needs some help!

Iv had 6 surgeries, in the last 5 years, to treat a jaw tumor/cancer!! Iv had 23 hours of surgery, ranging from 10 hours in the OR to 6 and 1/2, to 4, to 2.

I had my entire jaw bone/mandible surgically removed, because of my cancer, and my left fibula was surgically removed and used to build me a brand new jaw bone from scratch!

The surgery this Thursday, will knock me down for at least 3 months while I recover. And I won't be able to eat anything except pudding, tomato soup, and liquid meal replacements.
