popular mangaka x depressed mangaka is probably top 3 manga i read this year. genuinely incredible read, i hadn't read a work that impacted me so deeply in a long time. it is a bl but it's not a conventional romance manga at all, so take that in mind. its primary focus is the relationship between the two main characters and their personal circumstances (especially related to one of the characters' mental health). but it's seriously amazing. i can't summarize my thoughts on it bc there's so much to cover, but i assure you it's worth a read (((tho it's not a light read at all, tws for suicidal ideation and suicide attempts, domestic violence and alcoholism + some body horror))).

con cafe was such a fun read, i love reading about fashion in manga and i liked the angle the author chose to tackle this topic here. it was also interesting to read about concept cafes which was something i hadn't paid much attention to before. i think this manga's forte was its main cast, all the girls had really colorful and diverse personalities and they were super funny and sometimes a bit weird (positive) in their own ways (which i love). the sad thing about this manga (and this is where it falls off a bit compared to the other recs) is that it got cancelled, so the ending is rushed and there was a lot of stuff that couldn't be explored in depth (tao... 😭). but i still think it was a really enjoyable read.

first of all i wanna say that the cover of shuumatsu kimi to is tricky, don't let it fool you, this is a zombie + pandemic + cannibalism manga lmao. be ready for some gore too. but i love it :) ough, i adore this mangaka's art, it's such a pleasure to see. i liked the interpolation of domestic slice of life moments with the constant reminder of the world's impending doom, very tragic but heartwarming at the same time. plus, cannibalism as devotion is a concept i love to see (it's nothing new, but i like it). this is very short too, almost reads as a single volume manga.

sex ed 120% was probably the biggest surprise among these because i was only expecting your regular educational manga, but it ended up being a really wacky comedy PLUS educational manga. i guess this one won't be for everyone, it depends on whether you like this type of humor or if you find educational manga interesting in the first place, but if that's your thing, i say give it a try. besides the fact that it was genuinely funny, it's really informative about sex education and health, and even i learned some stuff at my big age.
