The word liminal comes from the Latin word limen, meaning threshold ā any point or place of entering or beginning. A liminal space is the time between the āwhat wasā and the ānext.ā It is a place of transition, waiting, and not knowing.
These images affirm that during transition, while floating in the liminal space, Ā you can trust answers will come. Ā You will feel better. This set of panels remind me that we can change and find new answers.Ā

This spring, PAAM presents an exhibition of work by four local emerging artists: Naya Bricher, Julian Cardinal, Antonia DaSilva, and Colin McGuire.
āIt is vital to the strength of our community as well as the artists on Cape Cod that we continue to nurture younger generations of artists. With dwindling young people, I wanted to celebrate these talented artists, to show others that there are still artists working and living on Cape Cod, and to encourage younger generations to follow in the footsteps of so many artists before them,ā writes exhibition curator Grace Ryder-OāMalley.
About the Artists:
Naya Bricher is an emerging artist living in Provincetown, MA. She was born on April 30, 1991 in Trenton, NJ and raised in South Kent, CT. She completed her B.A. at Smith College in 2013, with highest honors in studio art, and graduated from Miss Porterās School in 2009. A member of Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan, CT, she shows throughout the country in juried exhibitions, including the 64th and 63rd Art of the Northeast at Silvermine Arts Center in which she received the Prutting and Co. Award for Mixed Media. She was a resident artist at the Vermont Studio Center and currently works at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown.
Julian Cardinal began drawing from the figure during his freshman year at the University of Vermont. Summering on Cape Cod, he has spent numerous hours painting in the studio of his father, artist Robert Cardinal. In the spring of 2011, he graduated from UVM, where he majored in English and minored in Studio Art. He has been inspired by artists Michael Davis, Cynthia Packard and Anne Packard, as well as his father. Julian is also an accomplished violinist, tennis player and cook. He spends much of his time writing and producing music. He grew up in North Truro, MA, and currently resides in Burlington, VT.
Antonia DaSilva is a painter, printmaker, and graphic artist. In high school, she studied dance at Walnut Hill School for the Arts. While immersed in a community of artists at Walnut Hill she was inspired to pursue visual art. DaSilva is currently an art student at Smith College. She grew up in Chatham, MA and is an avid beach walker and observer of her surroundings.
Colin McGuire is a painter from Provincetown, MA. He received his MFA from Lesley University College of Art and Design, and BFA from Montserrat College of Art. Colin is represented by McGuire Gallery, where he works alongside his father and fellow painter Michael McGuire. He is also represented by Gallery Galleon in Vieques, Puerto Rico, where he exhibits and teaches plein-air painting. Colin teaches at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Montserrat College of Art, and holds private painting lessons on the Cape.
