Liriel was born in Germany at the US military base. She lived there until she was seven years old. Then they moved to Texas and lived there until she was ten. After that they lived in three more states plus Italy, young Liriel making friends and picking up on the language along the way. Growing up their mom was depressed and their dad was deployed most of the time so the older kids basically raised the younger two.
The happy family is a myth for many.
Their dad retired when Liriel was 17 which prompted the move to Northknot. There, the family settled down, their mom got a job as a nurse at the city hospital and their father took over as the Valley Elf Clan's leader. Liriel had already graduated high school by that point and decided to go to nursing school in a nearby city because she desperately wanted her mother's attention. It didn't really change their relationship though.
Our greatest joy and our greatest pain come in our relationships with others.
In nursing school, Liriel found out about her wild side. She partied a lot and has a lot of drunken nights that she can't remember. Somehow she still managed to graduate in the top ten percent of her class. Liriel moved out of her parents house when she finished nursing school and has an apartment near the hospital. In writing, she lived a quiet, reserved life for the next few years; keeping up the image of her family but she spends most nights very drunk in a bar.
In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom.
Now that they are older, their mother is trying to rekindle her relationship with her children. Liriel and the youngest sibling are more open to it, the older ones not so much. They carry a lot of resentment towards their mother. They've always respected their father though and he'd always been the cooler parent when he was around. Liriel says she loves them equally though just happy to finally have her mother's attention.
