(This list comes from Mara Ahmedâs blog post and was compiled by Fahd Ahmed; I added sources and new entries. Please reblog with further additions.)
Everytime someone you knows brings up a "good cop" they know (ie a brother, uncle, neighbor etc). Ask if they have any lawsuits against them. If they don't know, google that cops name in front of them and I'd place money there is. ESPECIALLY if they're in the NYPD, I've never met a city cop who's never been sued.
Ok so this post is extremely long and I put it all together for my blogs Feeling sad page but as I donât have a huge amount of followers I realize so many people are not seeing this information so Iâm posting it here too!
alternatives without harming yourself:
holding/squeezing ice.
splashing your face with water.
getting a rubber band and snapping it against your skin (this could hurt, though itâs better than other ways that people usually choose to self-harm).
take a hot shower or bath.
eat something sour. it will take your mind of the urge. (lemon, sour lollies)
massage where you want to self-harm.
get a red pen or red paint and draw/paint over where you usually self-harm.
remind yourself as to why you shouldnât do it. (scars, harms organs, leave memories etcâŚ)
describe what you are feeling. (is the urge/pain in your chest, fists, legs, arms, head).
killing yourself will not help. it is not a solution.
you have your whole life ahead of you. you have so many more years that you can accomplish things in. for example;
having a family.
getting married.
to watch the sun rise.
to watch the sun set.
to save someone elseâs life.
finish school.
get your dream job.
to laugh.
to smile.
to go camping.
travel to new places.
to wake up every morning to the person you love.
friends.
family.
to keep that promise you made.
to accomplish a goal.
to meet your idol.
to listen to new music.
theme parks.
video games.
chocolate.
to be able to look back and say âi made itâ.
what youâre going through is temporary.
in case you need to hear this:
you are loved.
you are wanted.
you are needed.
you are beautiful.
you are handsome.
you are important.
you are not alone.
you are okay.
you are strong.
you are worth it.
you are smart.
you are not a failure.
you are useful.
you are going to be okay.

sheâs so woke đŠ
this is how you support the lgbtâs⌠take notes straightiesâŚ
an oppressed group saying they hate their oppressors will never be the same as a privileged group saying they hate the marginalized group that they oppress
someone reblogged this & put â@monosexualsâ in the tags so i just want to remind you that gay men & lesbians dont oppress bi people.
itâs probably my own fault for checking buzzfeed but itâs so interesting the contexts in which mainstream progressive publications want to actually use the word lesbian đđ
iâve scrolled past this five times now trying to stop myself from ranting about how awful this is but every time i saw it i got madder so sorry here goes
we live in a society where a huge amount of women and girls everywhere are terrified to use the word lesbian or translations of the word in their native tongue for themselves even if thatâs the word that most accurately describes their truth. theyâre afraid and ashamed because straight people have tried their hardest to make it into an insult, a dirty word, a synonym for close-minded and deluded and ugly and monstrous⌠and in an environment like that, people who consider themselves LGBT allies, or even more importantly, are part of the community, have to do everything they can to counteract that perception of âlesbianâ and portray it as the beautiful, healing and wonderful word it is.
instead we get this shit. over and over.
and itâs infuriating, it really is. i understand that many of those writers are probably concerned about inclusion of non-lesbian women who are attracted to women and thatâs commendable (how appropriate it is to use âqueerâ as the oh so inclusive catchall word is a debate i really donât want to get into right now).
but this doesnât only happen when referring to all women into women. iâve lost count of how many times openly and proudly lesbian-identified women like ellen page or jasika nicole are only ever referred to as queer instead, skirting around the dreaded l-word like the article is a slip ân slide. characters that are explicitly called lesbians by their creators are stubbornly referred to as âqueerâ even though being specific about representation is incredibly important. but itâs fine to call porn âlesbianâ apparently. that doesnât need to be inclusive.
what this does is reiterate the mainstream view that lesbian is a word only used for porn at best, and positive self-identification has to be called something else. it sends the message to would-be lesbians that their shame around the word is appropriate, and wouldnât they rather call themselves x or y instead?
this happens with bisexual as an identity too, which journalists are all too happy to ignore in favour of âqueerâ or âfluidâ even if the person in question is explicitly bi-identified and using the word bisexual is important considering the lack of education around the subject in the mainstream.
but when it comes to lesbians the extra dimension is definitely the vague definition of the word queer as well. lesbian means woman exclusively into women. itâs definitive, it sets clear boundaries. queer does not. and that can be useful for people who are attracted to multiple genders, or whoâs sexuality works fluidly or cannot be defined as clearly, but it serves little use to lesbians who want a label that makes their exclusive attraction to women abundantly clear. (not saying no lesbian ever finds queer useful, to be clear.)
and more and more the desperate attempt to call lesbians anything but lesbians comes across as a deliberate attempt to skirt those boundaries the word lesbian sets. considering that this comes from the same publication that penned that wonderful article about how lesbian is now outdated because being a gay woman makes you exclusionary and bigoted for not being attracted to other genders too, it makes it hard for me to see the relabeling of explicitly lesbian women as not being maliciously motivated.
this stuff? matters. your word choices? matter. both lesbians and bi women deserve better than having their identity disappeared down into catchall terms they may not even be comfortable with.
take a shot every time a straight person is shocked that homophobia affects your daily life in 2017 because they never have to think about how traumatizing it was as a child to constantly hear that youâre disgusting and that this will stick with you for the rest of your life on top of constantly having to worry about your safety while in public and also constantly having to worry youâre making people uncomfortable by literally just existing⌠but no Kristen i can get married so #lovewins and homophobias over right

rainbow road represents the struggles and hardships of lgbt people
being gay is just a constant cycle of realizations likeâŚ. wow this is why i do thatâŚ.. wow homophobia impacted me like this,,, wow i do THIS because iâm gayâŚâŚ.. and thisâŚâŚâŚ. AND thisÂ
being straight is just a constant cycle of realizations likeâŚ. wow this why i do thatâŚ.. wow heterophobia impacted me like this,,, wow i do THIS because iâm straightâŚâŚ. and thisâŚâŚâŚ.. AND this
i canât even type out a witty rebuttal this is the funniest reply ive ever gotten on a post
if a single straight person ever actually sat themself down and realized âwow i do THIS because iâm straightâ the world would be a better place
just a quick note- no trans person has ever said âdid you just assume my gender.â trans people are very aware of how their gender and physical appearance differ and that visually one might assume that they are a man/woman when they are actually not. thatâs kind of the whole idea of gender dysphoria.Â
since i had surgery a month ago iâm having a binder giveaway!Â
iâd really love for them to go to trans people who canât afford to buy them or who canât safely buy one for themselves, so please keep that in mind and donât enter if you know that doesnât apply to you. if youâre interested in one of these please REPLY to this post with the order of your most preferred to least preferred binder, and iâll pick three winners based on need and/or have them generated randomly, depending on how many people enter. please check your measurements against the flavnt, underworks (under the âspecificationsâ section), and gc2b sizing guides to make sure youâll fit them before entering. the underworks one may have stretched a bit so thatâd be a good fit for someone on the slightly larger end of a medium. iâll also obviously need an address to send it to, so you also have to be okay with giving me that or a p.o. box or something. i think iâd prefer to keep them within the us because iâm pretty broke right now and i donât know if i can afford to ship internationally but if youâre outside the u.s. and want to enter anyway go for it and if you win weâll talk about it and figure something out, lol. theyâll be sent discreetly in a plain usps flat rate envelope. reblogging to signal boost is fine but please reply if youâre entering. iâll end this at midnight tuesday march 14th into wednesday the 15th and hopefully send them out that afternoon.Â
Y'all Sid is doing a giveaway including a @flavntstreetwear bareskin and you should get in on it if youâre in need of a binder đ
I hate that coming out is like, entirely for the sake of cis&straight people. We come about because they canât stop assuming that everyone else is cis&straight, we come out because they canât stop being homophobic and transphobic and assuming that we are comfortable hearing it, we come out because they keep asking about why we donât have a boyfriend yet or monitoring which bathroom we use. And then thereâs the fact that cis&straight people are so invested in us coming out. They tell us itâs lying and deceptive when LGBT folks donât come out to the point that they tell other people for us, they tell us that they âalready knewâ or âcould tellâ and brag about their gaydar or else they praise us by pretending itâs a compliment that they ânever wouldâve guessedâ, then they go on to call us âbraveâ and âstrongâ for doing something we never shouldâve had to do in the first place. And then thereâs the idea that we are the ones who should feel ashamed about it and be told that they âstill love usâ despite the fact that itâs their hatred and bigotry that weâve had to deal with the entire time weâve known them and not the other way around. Coming out is the only milestone they think we have because itâs the one that they play the biggest role in and the one that they necessitate and I absolutely hate that about coming out. Â
And then they say shit like âwhy do people even come out?â like itâs somehow ridiculous and attention-seeking, and not a direct result of the same hetero/cisnormativity they perpetuate literally every day.

okay, one more thing.
The intent of anti-trans âbathroom billsâ is not to make trans women use menâs rooms, or to make trans men use womenâs rooms.  No one really wants that.  No one is even trying to pretend that things would be okay if we used the âcorrectâ bathrooms but still dressed and acted like ourselves.
The intent of these bills is to drive trans people out of the public space entirely.
letâs be clear about that.
Hereâs a radical opinion for you:
âGayâ, âlesbianâ, and âstraightâ are completely useless words for describing orientations. Those arenât attractions; theyâre political alignments.
when your queer philosophy assignment is due and youâve run out of bullshit ideas
