the whole point of season one, the *original storyline*, was that they defied their bosses not because they knew they were in love, but because they loved humanity more than anything. time and again, they have always chosen humanity, and them choosing humanity again was always the answer.

that, and aziraphale literally says “you know what i want, but that’s not what matters.” he wants them to be an “us” too, but he knows that it’s all bigger than their love. humanity matters more, true free-willed humanity — and to be human is to choose love.

For all the duffers push 80s nostalgia they have done a piss poor job at showing what the mindset in the 80s was actually like. There are no stakes based around that in any topic. So with Will coming out there’s no tension for the viewer because we already know everyone loves him. Will’s the baby of the group.

We don’t have the setup for what the dangers and fears of being gay in the 80s would be like. We have a distant knowledge of it but we never saw any consequences of it. But WHO do we KNOW suffered homophobia on screen and would’ve been a PERFECT way to setup some real world consequences so we’d know what to fear when we find out Will is gay instead of hand waving it?

2) this comment is formatted to be perfect to tack onto any fic they choose

3) ALSO why on earth would Ao3 get rid of entire fandoms off the site? Even if they WERE inactive? Who knows if others will be ‘late’ to the fandom and want some fic to read. Who knows if someone wants to come back to their 6 year old account only to find most of their fics deleted.

I’m lucky to be a reasonable adult who has seen tricks like these who also had a very kind person comment their own doubts.
