It’s a good metaphor tho, because the situation is never going to get better if you don’t eventually pull the door. And afterwards, no matter what the damage was, you’ll have a working cabinet, whatever plates you could salvage, and a place to start putting new plates.

Try to find some people you can trust to hold out a towel or something so that when the plates do fall, they have some support, hey won’t get as damaged as they would if they fell to the floor, and you won’t hurt yourself stepping on the broken pieces. Understand there will still be damage, but it’s easier to deal with if you have support <3
