Wait this reminds me of that knitting creator who was complaining about whatever brand “stealing her design” and the whole time the “design” she was talking about was a knit beanie with a blanket stitch border………….. needles to say some people in there would benefit a reality check

Wait the funniest one was actually (and I don’t remember if this is the same person) this creator claiming that whatever brand stole their design bla bla bla and were furious about it but couldn’t really do anything because the design was I think a bonnet (?) with a copyrighted character on it like. First of all again “stolen design”, girl it’s a fucking bonnet with a drawing on it and the drawing’s not even yours. Second of all do you even hear yourself

The reason I’m quite skeptic about paid knitting/crochet patterns is that every time I’ve used (free) patterns i found that I tended to use them as rough construction guides because I had to (sometimes quite significantly) alter them to fit my body shape & taste, often requiring multiple tries and a lot of effort so like you can see why I would not be enthusiastic about paying real life money for a pattern knowing I will have to redo most of the work anyways. And like I can understand if it’s about a very specific design or stitch pattern or whatever but some designers are out there acting like they invented round neck sweaters

And I understand the frustration of some creators when their business does not do as well as they hoped but you’re talking about a craft where you can undo and redo stuff potentially forever until you get it just right and this is for many people an expected part of the process, if you want me to give you my money you have to give me sth that I can’t achieve by doing the same thing over and over again until I get it just right

really enjoying calling chatgpt a 'magic 8ball' because while far from a perfect analogy i feel like it is a very good deflationary weapon against both hype and antihype that helps bring things into perspective by detaching the actual thign from the cultural object it's attached to. "this magic 8ball is going to become sentient" i dont think thats true. "if you talk to a magic 8ball it will kill your soul" that one doesnt sound true also to be honest

i do find the rules around clothes fascinating because of how made up it all is. we invented the idea of covering our bodies from the elements because we lack fur like other mammals and then made up all these rules around it and now people will unironically tell you "men cant wear skirts its unnatural" girl none of this is natural. we are born naked and made up the rest as we went along. hope this helps.
