so im writing a book with mythical creatures in egypt and they go through tests but i dont know what tests i should use to draw in the reader
I would suggest reading a lot of/about mythology for this, Egyptian and otherwise. Immerse yourself in the sort of logic and tropes common to those stories, and you’ll be inspired by the patterns that you see. Think enough like your subject matter and you’ll be able to write like it, too.
A lot of people see it as a guide to making the next Star Wars, but Joseph Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces delves deep into the patterns found in many mythologies (not just Western ones) and touches on stories adjacent to the monomyth. Good place to start, if nothing else.
I just googled books on Ancient Egpytian mythology, and this list seems to have a lot of thoughtful and academic suggestions.
