i donât know if they donât teach internet safety in schools nowadays or if kids just donât take it seriously, but if you are a kid or teen, please:
donât give out your socials to random people. i was just in an among us room with a 14 year old giving out her instagram and asking others for theirs. DO NOT DO THIS.
if someone makes you even the TINIEST bit uncomfortable, block them! donât feel bad about it. donât worry that your reason for doing so isnât âgood enoughâ. just block them.
donât post any sort of identifying information about yourself. anything beyond like, your first name and the state/country you live in, should be kept to yourself. this goes double for dms with people you donât know irl.
if anyone asks for your âaslâ block them and do not answer. these people are always creeps. i block them as an adult! (asl refers to âage sex locationâ and the vast majority of people asking this are looking for someone to hit on)
if anyone has any more tips, feel free to add on!
donât assume your favorite adult youtuber/celebrity isnât âlike thatâ if they ever reach out to you privately for any reason. people with large followings rarely have any good reason to interact with their underage fans outside of public scrutiny. if you must talk to them, be wary of any kind of request for pictures of yourself even if it seems innocent enough.
Know that every photo you post only can and will be downloaded by someone. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of a photo being kept on someoneâs personal harddrive, do not post it online.
you know youâre in love when you start picturing them everywhere with you: hugging you from behind as you push a cart down an aisle at the grocery store, singing along to your favorite song with you from the passengerâs seat of your car, sitting on your couch reading a book when you come home. thatâs how you know.

How to remain productive with online classes:
A few tips from a broke neuro-divergent academic
Try and wake up early, and go to bed early too. Iâm not saying get up at 5 (unless thatâs youâre thing) but sleeping into noon is a productivity blackhole. I go for 8 or 8:30, generally, but thatâs just what works for me.
Get dressed for the day. Iâm not talking like, jeans and a business casual outfit, but a clean pair of sweatpants, fresh underwear, and a new shirt can really put you in the mood for a new morning.
Have a workspace. Whether it be the kitchen table, a desk, a spot on the floor with a lap desk, have a place thatâs dedicated to your work. Have items that signify that workspace too, like your book, planner, laptop, lamp, whatever. It can help you get into the zone, being in that space.
Have a morning drink. I choose earl grey tea with honey and cream, but black coffee, herbal tea, lemon water, whatever works for you is awesome, as long as itll wake you up and start your day.
To do lists. To do lists and to do lists and more to do lists. I have three. One is a post it weekly planner deal (3.99 at a local grocery store). itâs a weekly spread already set up, and if youâre anything like me, its really hard to set up a weekly spread. Then I have an app called Ike. I have a daily to do list I write on that app, and then I have four more to-do lists of what I have to for each specific class.
Spread out your assignments. Donât overwhelm yourself. If youâre professors are like mine, and have the due date for each module as Sunday at midnight. What I do is spread out all my assignments from Monday to Saturday, and I leave Sunday blank, so anything I didnât do that week, I finish on Sunday. It works for me, it might work for you.
Have a folder for each class, and a notebook for each class. I hate spending money, Iâm broke as hell, sono al verde as the Italians say, but a 0.99 cent folder and a 0.25 cent notebook can do wonders for motivating one to fill them up.
Study with a drink. Tea, water, coffee, whatever, but my go to is generally a warm drink. I cannot study if Iâm cold, I get tired and groggy, so warm socks, a robe, and a hot drink really keep me going.
Take breaks. Make time for your hobbies, for something fun. Working without stopping absolutely destroys my motivation, and let me tell you, when I feel like that, an episode of Avatar and a snack gets me right back on the wagon.
Do self check ins. Does your back hurt? Are you sad? Stressed? Do you have to pee? Are you hungry? Never put your homework over your health. You wonât be able to get anything done well anyway if youâve got those blocks.
Most importantly, get enough sleep. I beg of you. Sleep is so important, and itâs the game changer, at least to me. We as students have such an amazing opportunity to get more sleep than we ever have before during the year. Take advantage of that.
back at it again with another notion post! this oneâs about what I use every day in my personal workspace. hopefully this gives you all a bit of inspiration!

Bonus:
SO MUCH THIS!!
When helping kids learn from their mistakes and correcting past behavior, itâs important for parents and other role models to separate what they DID, and who they ARE.
Look at the exchange in the images above. The kid apologizes for âbeing bad,â and the adult points out that it isnât a question of âbeing.â Itâs about specific behavior.
âDefinitely was acting brand new. But you ainât got a bad bone in your body.â
For a personal example, Iâve been working with one of my kids about bullying other kids. And when she behaves that way, I will tell her, âWhat youâre doing is bullying,â or âStop bullying them.â
What I WONâT say is âYouâre being a bully.â
Because kids listen (even when we feel like they arenât) and they are constantly taking in information that they use to define themselves. And the worst thing I could do in this situation is say, âYouâre being a bully,â and they believe me.
It happens so often, itâs tragic. We tell kids, âYouâre a bully,â âYouâre dumb,â âYouâre being obnoxious,â and they internalize that. And as soon as a kid accepts âI am a bullyâ as part of their identity, they will act accordingly.
On the flip side, I used to think it was OK to label kids with âbeingâ statements as long as they were positive, but Iâve learned even that has hidden dangers.
For example, imagine one of my kids finishes a puzzle really quickly, and I respond by saying, âYouâre so smart!â Seems great, right?
But what happens when they move on to a harder puzzle and they donât finish as quickly? So they start thinking things like, âDad said Iâm smart because I can do puzzles fast. But I didnât do this one fast so I guess Iâm not smart after all.â Or, âDad says Iâm smart because I can do puzzles fast, but I didnât do this one fast so it must be a stupid puzzle thatâs made wrong.â
I guess my point is, use âyou areâ statements sparingly and carefully with kids. Tell them things like, âYou are important,â âYou are valuable,â âYou are loved.â But when it comes to behavior, make it clear that what they do does not define who they are. Let them define themselves.
Stuff like that still has me messed up.

tell me iâm cute or something so i can like roll my eyes at you but then blush when i think about it later
Since once in a blue moon I actually discover a decent rule for adulting, and since I know I have followers a few years younger than me who are just entering the workforce, I want to tell you about a very important phrase.Â
âI wonât be available.â
Imagine youâre at work and your boss asks you to come in on Saturday. Saturday is usually your day offâcoming in Saturdays is not an obligation to keep your job. Maybe you were going to watch a movie with a friend, or maybe you were just going to lie in bed and eat ice cream for eight hours, but either way you really, really donât want to give up your day off.
If you consider yourself a millennial youâve probably been raised to believe you need to justify not being constantly at work. And if youâre a gen-Z kid youâre likely getting the same toxic messages that we did. So in a situation like that, you might be inclined to do one of three things:
Tell your boss youâd rather not give up your day off. Cave when they pressure you to come in anyway, since youâre not doing anything important.
Tell your boss youâd rather not give up your day off. Over-apologize and worry that you looked bad/unprofessional.
Lie and say youâve got a doctorâs appointment or some other activity that feels like an adequate justification for not working.
The fact is, it doesnât matter to your boss whether youâre having open heart surgery or watching anime in your underwear on Saturday. The only thing that affects them is the fact that you wonât be at work. So telling them why you wonât be at work only gives them reason to try and pressure you to come in anyway.
If you say âI wonât be available,â giving no further information, youâd be surprised how often thatâs enough. Be polite and sympathetic in your tone, maybe even say âsorry, but I wonât be available.â But donât make an excuse. If your boss is a professional individual, theyâll accept that as a ânoâ and try to find someone else.Â
But bosses arenât always professional. Sometimes theyâre whiny little tyrants. So, what if they pressure you further? The answer isâpolitely and sympathetically give them no further information.
âAre you sure youâre not available?â âSorry, but yes.â
âWhy wonât you be available?â âI have a prior commitment.â (Which you do, even if itâs only to yourself.)
âWhatâs your prior commitment?â âSorry, but thatâs kind of personal.â
âCan you reschedule it?â âIâm afraid not. Maybe someone else can come in?â
If you donât give them anything to work with, they canât pressure you into going beyond your obligations as an employee. And when they realize that, theyâll also realize they have to find someone else to come in and move on.
IMPORTANT!! PLEASE READ!!
Just like with many other parts of life, learn to say ânoâ to people. You are important. Donât kill yourself for another person, esp. if they are your boss.

Weâre all having âhard conversationsâ about racism, police brutality, and #BlackLivesMatter I hope.Â
Youâve probably noticed that detractors often use the same âracist talking pointsâ in response. Hereâs a researched and sourced guide to help you answer, for the times you may get stuck.
