I read the title, and I said to myself β there will that one sentence that says it all β this is it:
βOne of the least glamorous and most valuable skills I learned at the Agency was listening with genuine curiosity.β
The people who listen, who actually hear you, are the ones everyone trusts and the ones who get everything done. People ask me at work, βHow do you get 150 people who donβt work for you to do things you want done?β Because I listen. Iβm also the person people call when they want advice, and sometimes when they are literally crying because, well, life is hard nowadays.
Itβs hard to do that, to be that person, to sort of take on everything, sort it, bin it, respond to it, remember it, redirect it, especially when people arenβt really looking for answers β theyβre just looking for someone who is listening. And the hardest part is that I donβt have anyone to talk to because the person at work I need to listen to me is someone who needs me to listen to them more β not because they said it or asked but because Iβm listening, and I understand. And itβs okay. I wouldnβt want it to be any other way.
