Since becoming a PWHL fan, I've been absolutely taken by the history and legacy of professional women's hockey, and in particular how hard the players have worked to create a league that supports and uplifts them, and allows them to begin to achieve the same level of recognition for their accomplishments as the men have. As most of you are no doubt aware, two of the most famous players in the PWHL are MPP and Hilary Knight, who have both contributed to the development of the sport and the league in different ways. However, something I noticed last season particularly as an American fan is that the league and the broadcasters seem to have a very Canadian bias when reporting/broadcasting/giving out awards, etc., constantly giving MPP effusive praise for everything she's done, while often ignoring the accomplishments of Knight. So this commission was borne out of that frustration; I asked Annie to communicate the idea of living in someone's shadow, particularly given the spotlight on women's hockey that has been brightened by the PWHL.
