fandom etiquette as a whole died when people who didnât grow up on fandoms became stans during lockdown, yes, but why am i seeing people openly mocking fics on twitter. why am i seeing screenshots of fics with captions like âbro what is this đ.â why am i seeing people mock fic writers for not knowing how sports or theater or college or any other organization operates in the real world.
âcollege is absolutely nothing like thisâ âwhy are we writing four people on the team scoring a hat trick in one gameâ âso tech work is nothing like this, hope that helps!â
if you donât like a fic, and if you canât suspend your belief enough to enjoy a fic that exaggerates or ignores real-world orgs, you donât have to read it. you donât have to screenshot it and put it on blast for twitter. you donât have to post a link to it in the replies. the back button is literally there on your phone. itâs not giving babyâs first fandom anymore, itâs giving entitled asshole and it isnât as cute as you think it is.
âTumblr age verification will not be needed,â tumblr staff stated upon confirming every single blog on the site is more than 10 years old.
âIf you were literate enough to be posting about Johnlock in 2015 we can kind of just assume youâre good,â staff elaborated even though we did not ask them to.

âoh, jesus, matt, itâs fine.â the sidewalk tilts and tilts again, gently, then rights itself with the next step. âthey wouldnât have let me if it wasnât safe.â
âthey let you because you lied on the questionnaire.â

hot, sudden shame flares up in your chest. âwell, i didnât think theyâd actuallyââ
âno, you didnât think!â he halts, a hard slash of frustration cutting across his mouth. a car passes and its headlights wash him in light. itâs a shame, really. the cold has rouged his cheeks, loosened his hair, making him look impossibly soft for someone lecturing you. âcome on. youâre not stupid. what the hell were you thinking trying to walk home when you almost passed out?â

It had all started with a dress. Crimson silk so sheer and delicate, leaving little to the imagination. You had chosen it with the intent of provoking a reaction from the man who had treated you like a ghost for the past five days.Â
Lloydâs work had become his mistress and you were determined to remind him of the wife he had waiting in his bed. You had stepped into his office, leaning over his desk to âask a question,â giving the six men he was meeting with a view they would never have.

Eddie spots you first, because of course he does. The Black Sabbath leather jacket on your back catching his eye as he strolls into the warm bar. Itâs too small to be an item borrowed from a boyfriend, and Eddie drinks in the form fitting material hugging your curves as he and Steve escape the summer heat in to the Hideout. Heâs still staring hard when Steve Harrington snaps him out of it.
â-anways that last bartender said I looked like shot guy, which is like, what the fuck does that mean?â Steve bloviates, the taller boy walking in step with his best friend, pausing when he realises heâs lost Eddieâs attention, âMunson, are you fucking listening to me?â
His brown eyes follow Eddieâs to find the prettiest girl heâs ever seen at the bar. Youâve got on crazy cool clothes, shit heâd see in a fashion magazine (or Eddieâs closet), and a small crowd of people around you, friends or fans, Steveâs not so sure. He watches as you recount whatever story youâre telling, hands flying to articulate your points as the patrons laugh. Your lilting voice finds its way in his ears, sending a warm feeling in his stomach and when he blinks, youâre staring back at the pair, a grin slowly melting across your features.
âWhoa,â Steve murmurs.

summary: the bau is trying one last time to locate remains from an old crime. reader joins aaron in the interrogation room against aaronâs wishes. def inspired by the episode ride the lightning.
t/w: typical criminal minds talk. mentions of violence. threats. some fluff. some cursing.
âwell, hellââ
âsit down. sit. down.â venmo drips from aaronâs lips. the unsub sits back in his chair without a question.
heâs studying you. eyes trail up and down your body, committing every bit to memory. you want to squirm under his gaze, but thatâs exactly what he wants and you refuse to give him the satisfaction.
you take a seat in front of him, emotions stone cold. just as the unsub refuses to take his eyes off you, aaronâs poisonous gaze hasnât left the unsub. aaron introduces you as blasĂ© as he can.
it took a lot of convincing for aaron to even let you in the interrogation room.
âabsolutely not,â he told morgan.
âhotch, it may be the only way to get him to confess,â morgan pleaded. aaron turned to you, pure torture on his face.
âif i wasnât dating you, you would send me in,â you pointed out. it was true. and aaron has done a very good job at compartmentalizing you as the agent and you as his girlfriend. it seems an unsub who hunts couples and kills the woman first making the man watch is where he draws the line. which, fair.
âcome on, hotch,â morgan said.
âsheâs completely his type,â aaron commented, speaking to morgan as if you werenât there.
âdonât take away my autonomy, aaron hotchner. weâre his type. both of us together. I am going in, end of story.â you stalked away from the men to prepare.
sitting across from this creepy man almost makes you wish youâd have let aaron have his way. aaron sits next to you, keeping his gaze off you. you didnât want to go in telling the unsub the two of you were a couple. he likes to figure it out himself. spencer theorized that offering him part of the hunt may lead to a confession.
âwhereâs the first couple?â aaron asks.
âwhatâs this? bad cop, beautiful cop?â the unsub says, ignoring aaronâs question.
surprisingly, neither of you react to the comment. âthe couple,â aaron presses.
âagent hotchner, this is the most beautiful woman i have been allowed to see in the past 50 years. probably the last one iâll see before they inject me. let me enjoy this,â the unsub says, a sinister smile on his face.
âmr. bryers, where is the first couple buried?â you ask him, lacing your words with sugar. this causes his smile to deepen.
âah,â he waves you off, leaning back in his folding chair. âa pretty thing like you shouldnât be concerned with the evil things iâve done.â
you can feel the anger radiating off aaron. every time the unsub mentions your looks, that anger deepens. you wouldnât be surprised if he doesnât figure out the two of you are a couple soon.
âbut i am. I am really concerned for the families of that sweet couple. imagine the closure you can give them,â you lean forward just slightly. âyou know, before the needle.â you sit back.
âpretty and sassy. whereâve you kept her hidden agent hotchner?â he asks, finally turning his attention to aaron. âyouâve never brought her here before.â
âno, i havenât,â aaron agrees completely void of any emotion. his body betrays him though. heâs clutching his pen too tight. his jaw clenched just a little more than it usually is. you take a photo from the file folder in front of you. you startle at how similar you and aaron look to them. itâs not a perfect match by any means, but the two of you would have fit into his MO.
âsally and brendan,â he comments, his eyes widening at the sight of them. âyou know what they say, you never forget your first.â
âcut the shit, bryers. tell us where you buried them and weâll be on our way,â hotch pushes himself back from the table. aaron paces behind you, rubbing the fingers of his left hand against each other.
âmy god, aaron, whatâs gotten you so keyed up?â the unsub starts to laugh, but abruptly stops. âthis started when she walked in.â he looks between the two of you like a wimbledon match. âmy god, sheâs your,â he checks your left hand, âgirlfriend?â
aaronâs glare only confirms his suspicions. that smile is back on bryerâs face.
âyou figured it out!â you beam, taking control of the situation. you turn to aaron, âi told you he was intelligent enough to figure it out!â pumping this guyâs ego is the only way you may get through to him.
âi like her, agent hotchner,â he grins at aaron. âpretty, sassy, and smart. i would have taken my time with her.â aaron stands completely stoic. âjust from the way youâre behaving, i know you love her so much. iâm sad to have not gotten the chance to add the two of you to my roster.â
the brazen way he discusses killing the two of you makes you nauseous. sure youâve been threatened before, but the way he says the words, full of whimsy tells you if heâd have come across you and aaron outside of prisonâŠyou donât even want to think about it.
âmr. bryers,â you say, pushing the photo closer to him. âplease.â
he glances down at the photo. âiâd like to hold it.â he holds up his bound hands. the last thing aaron is going to do after those comments is allow the correctional officer to remove his handcuffs.
âabsolutely not,â aaron says. âyou can see it perfectly fine.â aaron finally returns to his seat next to you. your body instinctively moves closer to him. your thighs touch, and the feeling calms you. aaron puts a hand on your thigh, squeezing reassuringly.
byers cocks his head. you push the photo even closer. âwe gave you once last hunt. now youâre going to tell us where sally and brendan are.â the change of your tone surprises him.
âyou know, sally and brendan had just gotten engaged when i found them. are you planning on proposing, agent hotchner?â
âthatâs irrelevant to the location of these bodies, bryers,â aaron replies. bryers frowns down at the photo.
he looks up at aaron baffled. âno, i think itâs completely relevant. donât you?â he turns to you. âdonât you want to know if agent hotchner has plans to marry you? maybe heâs just leading you on? a young lady like you with an old man like him?â the words land. aaronâs eye twitches ever so slightly. youâre sure bryers misses it, but you donât. you know every one of this manâs tells. and not just because youâre a profiler. âwell?â
âitâs irrelevant,â aaron repeats. aaron looks five seconds away from ripping off his tie and pummeling the unsub. itâs definitely not the time, nor the place, but watching aaron have to physically keep himself in check over you is insanely hot.
bryers shrugs. âyou want the location of the bodies? i want your confession. go on. tell her sheâs just a young piece of ass.â you rest your hand on aaronâs arm to keep him from reacting.
aaron turns to you, a look of pure torture on his face. this isnât how he wanted to do this. âof course I want to marry her,â he murmurs. byers is practically beaming watching aaron squirm. aaron fell right into his trap. âiâd marry her tomorrow if sheâd let me.â
âaaron,â you breathe. the confession warms your heart. no doubt the feeling is mutual. you offer him a small smile, hoping he knows you understand how hard that was.
âdo you remember where your team apprehended me?â bryers breaks the spell between you and aaron. aaron turns his attention back to bryers.
bryers takes a deep breath. âunder the oak tree in the backyard.â the confession was devoid of his false bravado. it was a shock to the system. he stared off at the wall, revisiting the crime in his mind.
aaron stands, offering you his hand. you take it, allowing him to pull you from the chair. adrenaline courses through your veins. itâs hard to pinpoint exactly what it is. aaronâs confession? bryerâs confession? a serial killer blatantly telling you heâd have brutally murdered you? all of the above?
just as aaronâs hand touches the doorknob, bryers speaks. âagent hotchner?â aaron raises a brow at him. âwill the two of you do me a favor? come to the execution. iâd love for the last thing i see be the couple who got away.â he slipped the mask back on as quickly as itâd come off. the disgusting smirk is back on his face and dread washes through your body.
âfuck you,â aaron tells him and he pulls you through the door.
Hiii! Itâs me, back againđ€
I have this thought about Hotch and bau reader in the early stages, and the rest of the team is WAY too invested in their relationship. Iâm talking bets, meddling, maybe a little blackmail? We all know hotch likes his privacy sometimes and maybe reader is kinda shy about it/ doesnât know how to express it out loud.
Fiscal Quarter |Â [A.H]

Warnings: None, fluff
Summary: The rest of the BAU team bets on when you and Hotch will make your relationship "official".
The bullpen had never been quieter than it was at 6:47 a.m. on a Tuesday, and that was exactly how Aaron Hotchner liked showing up to work, knowing that there were no crime scenes or serial killers breathing down his neck. Just a big stack of paperwork waiting for him on his desk.
He walked into the bullpen with his coffee, tie already knotted, suit jacket draped over one arm, pretending he didnât notice the way conversation died the second he crossed the glass doors.
He noticed. He always noticed.
What he didnât noticeâyetâwas the folded betting slip Garcia had taped under the lip of his desk three days earlier, or the fact that Reid had spent forty-five minutes last night, calculating the statistical probability that Hotch would kiss you in a public area in or around the FBI academy building before the end of the fiscal quarter. Current odds were 12 to 1, and Morgan had taken the âunderâ during the initial round of bets.

Summary: After joining The Eye and finding out that Agent Rhodes was behind all of it, the Horsemen have some questions that need answered.
Warnings: Some swearing
A/N: Every time Iâve rewatched Now You See Me, Iâve always wondered what happened after they got off the carousel - thereâs got to have been a conversation of some sort between the Horsemen and Dylan where they find out who he really is, so this is my attempt at imagining how that would go. The second half of this part takes place after they talk to him and it was something completely self-indulgent that came into my head while I was drafting this, so I thought that it would be a really fun way to end it. Hope you like it!

After leaving the carousel, the six of us begin to make the journey out of the park. Itâs silent for a moment before Rhodes breaks it. âI know that this is a lot to take in so if you have questions, go ahead and ask them.â
âAgent Rhodes-â
He cuts me off and says, âCall me Dylan.â
âDylan. What was the purpose of the shows we performed?â
âTo understand that, I have to tell you all a story. Thirty years ago, a twelve year boy watched his father drown to death in the middle of a river. After it happened, the boy created a persona and spent many years researching and planning out every detail in order to get back at the people who wronged him and his family: the insurer who denied the familyâs claim, the bank that carried the note and the company who cut corners when they made the safe his father died in.â
Once Dylan finishes speaking Danny muses, âThis is about you isnât it? Hold on a second. Your father died in a safe? The only person I know that happened to was Lionel Shrike. Wait⊠youâre his son, arenât you?â
âYes.â

Part 7: Misdirection and A Leap Of Faith

Misdirection - the action of making people pay attention to the wrong thing, usually intentionally so that they will not notice something else.
It is arguably the most important skill that every magician needs in order to succeed and how good we are at it is about to be tested in a major way. What weâre attempting to do is a lot more complicated than just making a coin go from one hand to the other - if any part of the plan goes wrong, then it could put everything weâve worked towards over the past twelve months in jeopardy.
âAlright, Rhodes should know where we are by now so I donât think weâll be needing this anymore,â Danny states, dropping the agentâs phone on the floor and crushing it with his foot.
âDo you think they know about this?â Henley asks him.
âThey who?â
âWhoever weâre working for.â
âWho are we working for and are we prepared to go to jail for them?â Merritt counters.
With a scoff Danny replies, âStop being paranoid.â
âIt really does happen.â
âIt mightâve happened to you but it doesnât mean that it will happen to us.â

New Orleans.
The location for our second show and the city that was at the heart of one of Americaâs worst natural disasters: Hurricane Katrina.
In a short while, The Savoy theatre will be packed full of people who have no idea that theyâre going to be a hell of a lot richer by the end of tonight. That the source of their windfall is going to be the man who prevented it in the first place. It feels good knowing that weâre going to change peopleâs lives for the better and give them the money that they shouldâve received to begin with.
Thanks to Danny swapping Rhodesâ phone back in Vegas, we now know that he, Agent Dray and the FBI will be in town for our performance. Weâve also discovered that they know about the bracelets we have for tonightâs show and are hoping to track us through them when we inevitably make our swift exit after our finale. They seem to think that weâre going to be easy to catch, but theyâve clearly underestimated us.
I still donât like it though. The bracelet on my wrist is a constant reminder of the risk weâre taking by wearing them. I get that we have a plan to use them to our advantage, but it doesnât stop that little bit of doubt from creeping in and making me worry that we could get caught.
Iâm brought out of my thoughts by Danny saying, âSo the plan for tonight is-â
I interject by remarking, âStep 1: we all do our own acts. Step 2: transfer the money into the audienceâs bank accounts during intermission which then leads to step 3: operation Robin Hood.â

Itâs the morning after our spectacular magical debut and the guys and I are in the living area waiting for the Feds to arrive and arrest us.
From his position lying on the couch Merritt voices, âI still donât understand why we need to be caught by the FBI. Isnât that the one thing weâre trying to avoid here?â
âIt is, but it was a part of the plan so we just have to trust that everything will work in our favour,â I answer.
Danny turns around from the window and adds, âY/Nâs right. Itâs been included in the plan for a reason - we need to get a hold of an agentâs phone so that we can always be steps ahead of them going forward, which weâll definitely need to be after our next show.â
Thereâs a playful undertone to my voice as I remark, âIâm sorry, I must be hallucinating because I couldâve sworn that the J. Daniel Atlas just said that Iâm right.â Looking between Merritt and Jack I ask, âDid you guys hear that too?â
âYep,â Merritt says.
âSure did,â Jack responds.
I then go on to say, âBetter not make a habit of it, otherwise Iâll think that youâve been possessed by an alien life form or something.â
The guys laugh at my comment and I notice that Danielâs failing to hold back a smile too. âAlright, youâve made your point. Iâll try not to compliment you too much - wouldnât want it going to your head.â
Just as Iâm about to throw a witty comeback at him, the doors gets slammed open and a fleet of federal agents make their way into the room. If their presence wasnât obvious already, the one at the front starts shouting, âFBI! Hands where I can see them!â

Weâre finally here.
All of the planning and preparations that the five of us have done over the past year has lead us to this moment: our first show in Vegas.
This is the place where a number of legendary magicians have performed the greatest shows of their careers and weâre about to join their ranks. It almost feels too good to be true, like Iâm going to wake up any minute now and realise that it was just a dream, yet here we are - sitting in the back of a limo driving through the strip towards our hotel.
As I stare out of the window watching the city pass by, my thoughts turn to our mysterious benefactor. I wonder if theyâre going to be in the audience tonight, watching us as we finally bring their plans to fruition. I donât know who they are - none of us do - but I hope weâre able to do them justice. This is our first step on our journey to becoming part of The Eye and weâre going to do everything in our power to ensure that we start off with a bang.
Itâs not long before the limo stops in front of the Aria hotel. After grabbing our bags, the five of us make our way into the large and opulent lobby. Once weâve reached the front desk, Danny greets the receptionist. âHi, I think Arthur Tressler has reserved a room for us?â
âThe Horsemen?â
âThatâs us.â Merritt supplies.
After checking the details on her computer she hand him five key cards and tells us, âYour room is on the top floor.â
Henley then goes on to say, âWait a second - the top floor? Then that meansâŠâ
Turning to face Jack I ask, âAre you thinking what Iâm thinking?â
âPenthouse suite!â He exclaims, before giving me a high five.

Paris.
From iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Louvre museum to the historical architecture and cosy cafes, this city has something for everyone. Take us for example: there are plenty of unassuming Frenchmen walking around that we could easily choose as our mark for our first show but weâre only focused on one.
Etienne Forcier.
Heâs a businessman in his late forties and a creature of habit - he walks the same route to and from his work every day and he also banks with the Credit Republicain de Paris, which according to the information on the USB is an essential part of why he was specifically chosen for this.
After tailing him for the past couple of days, weâve decided that todayâs the day weâre going to âprogramâ him. If everything goes well, heâll be at our Vegas show in a couple of weeks completely oblivious to the fact that heâs going to play a big part in our final trick.
Weâre all standing at different points on his route, each of us waiting for our opportunity to encounter him. As I try to act as inconspicuously as possible, I hear Dannyâs voice through my earpiece saying, âAlright guys, Etienne should be appearing any minute now. Everybody know what they have to do?â
To that I remark, âOf course we do control freak. Itâs not as if youâd let us forget,â which elicits a laugh out of Jack.

A/N: We never see or hear about what happened during the year between the first meeting and Vegas (besides them going to Paris of course), so I wanted to write something that would show the gradual progression of their friendship with each other so it didnât seem like it just appeared out of thin air. The anticipation is killing me.
Ever since I got up this morning, Iâve been willing time to go faster so that the guys can come here and we can find out more about what weâre actually letting ourselves in for. Iâm at the stage where Iâm so full of energy that I canât sit still, which is why Iâm currently pacing up and down my living room. Then again, it could be because Iâve had four cups of coffee and the caffeine is starting to take effect.
Iâm brought out of my thoughts by someone knocking on my door. I practically run to it and when I open it, I see Daniel, Jack, Henley and Merritt standing there.
Moving to the side I say, âHi guys, come on in.â
After shutting the door behind them Merritt comments, âNice place.â
âThanks. Itâs nothing fancy, but itâs home.â
I then lead them to the living room, where we all sit down on my couch and face the laptop on my table.
âHave you looked at it yet?â Daniel asks.
âNope. I was waiting for all of you to get here so we could look at it together.â
âWell, care to do the honours Y/N?â Merritt remarks.
âAlright. Here goes nothing,â I mutter, before plugging the USB into my laptop.
Nothing happens for a few seconds, then a window pops up on the screen with that weird symbol that we saw yesterday. There are some words underneath it that say-
âThe Horsemen? Whatâs that supposed to mean?â
Daniel answers Henleyâs question by explaining, âTheyâre known as the harbingers of the apocalypse and are viewed as a metaphor for the end of days.â
âI think itâs what weâre supposed to call ourselves. Our stage name, basically,â I add.
âI like it. Sounds kinda badass,â Jack comments.

Well, todayâs the day - March 29th. The day I finally find out what the card I received last week actually means.
I honestly donât know what the hell Iâm about to walk into and Iâm feeling pretty nervous about it, so in an attempt to temporarily distract myself, I decide to focus on what Iâm going to wear to this thing. After trying on almost everything in my closet, I settle on an outfit that is a combination of smart and edgy - something that makes me look somewhat professional but also showcases my personality as well. It only takes people seven seconds to make up their minds about you, so I want to make a good first impression.
Once Iâm ready, I leave my apartment and take the subway to the stop closest to East Evans Street. Since Iâve got a bit of time before I reach my destination, I go on my phone and try to research The Eye a bit more, but of course I canât find anything apart from a small paragraph that says:
There is a legend of a secret order born in ancient Egypt called The Eye. For thousands of years they have been known as the keepers and protectors of real magic: it is said they perfected sleight of hand to steal food from the Pharaohs and give it to the slaves, therefore using magic and illusion to even the scales of justice. The legend is that The Eye is everywhere, waiting for the truly great magicians to distinguish themselves from the mediocre ones. Candidates for initiation must follow a series of commands with blind obedience, for only by taking a leap of faith will their eyes truly be opened to the world of miracles.
Itâs not much, but it does support my earlier theory about this possibly being a test set by the society to determine if Iâm worthy or not - I guess Iâll find out soon enough.
