Ok so the FL was roofied and raped when she was in high school and then later when she goes away to uni she doesn’t tell anyone about it but obvs there are impacts like she doesn’t drink at parties / in public. 

The trope for the main couple is fake dating for mutual benefit (you know that’s one of my faves) and the ML doesn’t know about what happened to the FL but slowly he learns things like at first she tells him she doesn’t drink in public but then he learns that she would happily drink if certain criteria are met so she feels safe. So at one party he gets her a closed can (can’t be spiked). And then at another party at a bar he promises to look out for her and her friend and to guard her drinks. So for the first time basically ever she’s able to get drunk and have fun in public. 

And by that point feelings are developing for both of them and by the end of the night the drunk FL comes on to the ML hard and he very much wants that but he does all the right things. Looks after her but does not take advantage / rejects all her advances in a very kind, gentle way. 

And the music choice during this scene (Hope is a Scary Thing by Carol Ades) is just so PERFECT.
