Garden Ball-Goers || Perseus & Taran
“Oh, yes, my costume,” the man nodded, and pulled on the hood, buttoned down the cloak, and put on the skull-painted half-mask over his mouth. “The Horned King, obviously, as you can see! Nice of you to say it looks good on me. Yours looks good as well.”
“Oh! Atlantica!” Taran immediately exclaimed when the other mentioned the place. “I have never been, obviously, but I’ve heard of the place… Is it true there’s mermaids in there? You don’t… Well, you certainly appear to have legs, or at least be able to walk on land, so maybe things aren’t like they tell,” the young man observed, looking the other over once more. “Nice to meet you, Flounder. I… think Perseus sounds nicer.”
“Eh, one way or the other, yeah, it’s probably warmer here. I’m used to it already. I used to work under the sun all the time back at the farm. I’m so used to it, actually, that wearing one too many pieces of clothing already makes me sweat a little, but I’m to get over such things if I ever want to be anything more than a pig-keeper, huh?” Hen Wen looked up at the two as if she was a tad annoyed, but then focused on whatever looked so interesting in the gardens below them.
“The Horned King.” Flounder repeated, getting a feel for the name. “That’s an interesting costume choice, definitely not one I’ve seen before so points for originality.”
“I always forget how little humans actually know about merpeople as a whole.” He said, with a laugh. “All of us have the ability to transform our tail into a set of legs. We need to stay pretty hydrated while on land but we can do it. I’m not the only one here although I don’t know where the others are.”
“You’re probably the only person that has ever said that but if you like Perseus more than you can call me that, although I don’t let just anyone call me that so you should consider yourself special.” He murmured, face heating up a little as he realizes exactly what he said.
In an effort to distract from his previous statement he continued talking. “You work on a farm as a pig-keeper? That sounds like-” Perseus was interepputed by the sounds of screaming coming from the ballroom. Turning around he saw fleshless beings pulling themselves through the floor and stood frozen for a moment before wheeling around to grab Taran’s hand and begin running for the exit doors.
