@campfright sent: “ why are you talking like we’ll never see each other again? ” - abi AGain
To say Nick felt bad was an understatement. Waking up with little to no recollection of what had happened was alarming, but learning the things he’d said to Abi leading up to his transformation was even worse. From what he’d been told, he’d pretty violently thrown or shoved her across the room. He could’ve seriously hurt or killed her, and he had a hard time believing any it was true. In fact, he didn’t want to believe that it was. Nick just couldn’t imagine ever mistreating her that way when he cared so much about her; more than he’d been able to properly express. He didn’t view Abi as just some girl or some sort of summer fling. He genuinely liked her and she was important to him.
Even though losing control of his emotions and lashing out was due to the infection spreading, it didn’t do anything to make Nick feel less guilty. He couldn’t apologize enough for what he’d done, and as if his insecurities weren’t already bad enough by making him doubt himself and his worth, now he had a hard time believing that Abi would want to stay in touch with him. Understandably, he’d scared her. The person who she was supposed to feel safe with had turned on her, and how was she supposed to just forget about it and go right back to trusting him? Werewolf curse or not, he couldn’t expect that of her.
Gaze fixated on the ground, unable to bring himself to look Abigail in the eyes this time, Nick shrugged his shoulders. ❝ I didn’t think you would want to see me again, after...Well, you know. ❞ He paused, hesitating on continuing further. He wanted to ask her if she did want to see him again, but ultimately decided against it. He would just let her talk and express her opinion it.

Don't wanna feel
I could be honest
I could be human
I could become the silver bullet in your head"

erzahlerr:
it had become routine to bask in the calmed stillness of the lake and the illuminated moon reflected in it . he’d been at this very dock almost every night . legs hanging over the edge while toes danced across the surface , creating little ripple effects . his removed shoes sat just beside him and jeans were rolled up to just beneath his knees . the reassuring hum of his earpods vibrated in his ears . this sense of atmosphere centered him and refreshingly left him alone with his thoughts . that is until one sudden head turn later , followed by the sound of the water swallowing his earpod echoed sinisterly .
ryan cursed under his breath , temple throbbing with annoyance as he began emptying his pockets of valuables – phone , wallet … he wasn’t about to let his earphone drown when there was a chance he could salvage it . he contemplated jumping in without his jeans but laziness won that argument – aka he couldn’t care if he got his pants wet .
that’s the last time he ignored his instincts as the very jeans he forgo removing were the very thing that became the problem . as he swam deeper and deeper , visibility diminished with each stroke . until …
barb wire sunk its teeth into the loose material of said jeans . the skin of his calf thankfully only scratched – but blessings were short lived as his lungs started constricting in the struggle to keep air in . ( @firstbitten )
After a long day of activities, taking a walk in the stillness of the night had proven to be relaxing. Nick was by himself, walking near the lake when he spotted Ryan sitting comfortably at the end of one of the docks. He was a bit of a lone wolf that away, often spotted sitting in a secluded area with his earpods in and the rest of the world tuned out. Even if he wanted to say hi, he knew that it was likely that he wouldn’t hear him. Not long after, a splash coming from that same direction had grabbed Nick’s attention, his gaze finding the dock once more to discover that it was now empty. Ryan had gone into the lake, and he doubted it was for a swim since he was fully clothed. As the seconds ticked by and Nick didn’t see him resurfacing anywhere, a feeling of worry began to come over him. ❝ Ryan? ❞ He called out, long strides carrying him closer to the dock, where he saw his belongings waiting there for his return. There was no answer, and Nick didn’t want to risk waiting any longer. ❝ Shit, ❞ he muttered under his breath before diving in. Luckily, Nick was a strong swimmer and had lifeguard experience, able to hold his breath for lengthy periods and go longer without tiring. It was a fair ways down that he found Ryan, struggling to get back up to the surface due to his pants being caught on barbed wire. He would need to be careful too, because he hadn’t bothered to undress. It would’ve taken too long, and every second counted. Try as he did to remove the sharp pieces from the fabric, they were tangled up pretty good and he didn’t have time to mess around with it. Instead, he settled for unfastening the other males jeans and tugging them off. It took some effort because wet clothes always clung more tightly, especially when it came to skinny jeans, but he was persistent and managed to remove them. One arm held onto Ryan to pull him along while he swam upwards as quickly as he could manage, and soon they broke the surface. Nick immediately took a deep breath in to allow air back into his lungs, thus recovering the oxygen he’d been deprived of in the depths of the lake, then turned to look at the other male who he was still keeping afloat. He wanted to make sure that he was okay, that he was breathing and hadn’t inhaled a bunch of water.
Anyone else get more attached to a character after writing with someone who portrays that character?

abigail doesn’t know what to think of the situation they had been placed in. talking and making up one minute, being TORN APART the next. whatever that thing was, she was TERRIFIED it was going to come back to finish what it had started. it had been dark in those woods, only the pale moonlight illuminating their surroundings. getting a good look at whatever that THING was had been impossible. the only thing abi is SURE of is that it wasn’t some BEAR. no, that thing was too skinny, too fast, too… HUMANOID to be a bear. mental images of the glimpse she caught flash behind her eyes and she SHIVERS. could THIS have been why chris was so ADAMANT they stay indoors? had he KNOWN about this creature that haunts the woods at night?
aside from feelings of fear, she also felt GUILT. yes she’d tried to help nick, but still ultimately had to leave him. she can’t forgive herself for it, thinking the WORST. all the WHAT IFS playing in her mind. it could’ve gone back for him, could’ve KILLED HIM because she left him alone. he was thanking her, but she didn’t feel she DESERVED that thanks. ❝ it could’ve killed you nick… it could’ve gone back and finished the job. i barely did ANYTHING to help. it’s just lucky that ryan was able to save you and bring you back… ❞
It wasn’t hard to see that Abi was feeling bad about how things had played out, but Nick gave a gentle shake of his head in objection to her words. It was true that the creature could’ve returned to kill him, and he’d admittedly been fearful that he was going to die when Abi ran away to leave him alone with the creature and the man with the gun, but she had still tried to help him before being chased off. He hated seeing her run into the woods like that, not knowing if she’d be okay with the unrecognizable animal following so closely behind her. ❝ That’s not fair to say. What else could you have done? You tried to help, and it attacked you too. ❞ It was a rhetorical question, because Nick already knew the answer to it. Abigail could have continued trying, sure, but she definitely wouldn’t have been successful in her attempts. In fact, it could’ve ended up a lot worse for both of them if she hadn’t ran back to the bonfire to get help from Ryan. ❝ Besides, ❞ Nick continued in a volume that was loud enough for only her to hear, ❝ you barely managed to move me. Even on my feet, I would’ve been dead weight. ❞ With how much bigger he was than her, it wouldn’t have worked out regardless. ❝ If you hadn’t gotten Ryan, I think...❞ he paused, however briefly, to imagine how things would’ve gone down. ❝ I think I would’ve died. ❞ Abi had done a lot more for him than she even realized.
campfright:
a slight frame struggled to keep the both of them standing upright, knees shaking thanks to the effort and the nerves she was exhibiting. once - spotless sneakers sunk into soft soil as she dug her heels into the ground, simultaneously focused on the roots in front of them, the noises around them, and keeping her grip on the man towered over her. frequent worried glances up to ensure he was still conscious, still able to push forward in spite of the pain, kept abi moving in spite of the muscles in her legs screaming for reprieve. the brunette’s clasped hands met just under his point of injury, a terrible move but a desperate one – the blood coming from his wound was slowly slicking her hands, causing a firm grip to begin slipping.
she couldn’t believe she still had the ability to laugh, especially not in this moment – but as unexpected as it was, a muted giggle more akin to a sharp breath than what it normally sounded like. it sounded strange, like it wasn’t her. kaitlyn would’ve told her it was shock, but kaitlyn wasn’t there, and it felt like abi was losing her mind. “stick to the ‘yeah, i’m okay’ bit until we’re safely inside, okay? you go down, i go down with you.” she wasn’t sure if she was trying to lighten the mood or if she was even in control of her own words at all. a dumbfounded gaze sought out his face in the dark, expression turning incredulous as she gave him a once - over. “i’m completely fine. don’t worry about me, okay? i promise.” nick’s last question was met with hesitation, silence as brows furrowed as abigail tried to think of an answer. “i… i don’t know. that thing did not look like anything i’ve ever seen on animal planet.”
For as short and small as Abi was, Nick thought it was admirable that she was still trying to help support him while they walked through the woods and towards safety. The last thing he wanted in this moment was to be a burden to her, but he reminded himself that she’d chosen to stick with him when she had a choice of leaving him behind. He could tell she was struggling though, her hold on him gradually loosening and her small form trembling, and he wasn’t sure how much longer she could keep it up for. He was much larger than her, and with the added slickness of his blood, it was only going to get harder for her. The laughter that Abi emitted—which was different from how it normally sounded—earned an inquisitive look from Nick while a faint and fleeting grin took shape on his lips. She certainly was quirky, which was one of the reasons why he’d grown fond of her over the summer. ❝ I don’t want to be the reason you get hurt. ❞ Admittedly, he wasn’t quite sure how to properly express his appreciation for her willingness to stay with him. The fact that she would remain by his side if he went down said a lot about her as a person, but the thought of her getting hurt or even killed because he was slowing them down didn’t sit well with him. As for Abi claiming that she was fine, Nick didn’t press her on the subject any further, deciding that he would believe her until proven otherwise. ❝ Right. You’re fine until I crush you under my weight, ❞ he half joked, his voice somewhat strained from battling with the pain he felt in his side. It was only moments later, knowing that Abi seriously was going to collapse under his weight if she kept going, that Nick broke away from her to sit on a nearby log, his eyes shut tightly and his jaw clenched. If it hadn’t been for the pain, he would’ve definitely been commenting on her being someone who watched Animal Planet. It was charmingly fitting for her. ❝ Let’s just...Just take a minute. ❞
crpediem:
the lodge was supposed to be safe. everyone always told them to head to the lodge as if these bloodthirsty creatures didn’t know how to catapult themselves through windows or claw their way through doors which weren’t exactly built to hold them off. and granted, dylan almost believed it. almost. the peace and silence lasted for a moment too long – long enough for them to be taken off guard by one of those damned things. it all happened too fast – he’d been talking to nick about .. something – when something heavy slammed into him, pinning him to the floor and the next thing he remembers is the excruciating pain across his chest as those claws dug in, ripping flesh as if it were paper. “ aaaAAAAH – n-nick – get it off, get it off — !! “ hands flew out, trying to keep those sharp teeth away from himself as best as he could, until ears rang with the shot from the shotgun, efficiently knocking the thing off of him with a loud whine. that’ll … do.
dylan doesn’t have time to think, nor assess any of the damage as he’s pulled to his feet, following after his fellow counselor with newfound determination – or maybe he’s just in shock. adrenaline pumping through his veins, momentarily making him forget the carnage on his chest. it’s only once they’re barricaded in the room and the growling and footsteps can’t be heard that dylan’s way too fast breathing becomes too loud in his ears and the pain from his chest finally comes forth.
“ … jesus – f-fuck … “ a small whimper mutter to himself as hand reaches out, grasping nick’s own one just to ground himself. just to make sure he’s still here, alive and breathing – worse for wear, sure, but at least he hadn’t been bitten, right? “ yeah, no kidding … that was waaaay too close. “ dylan sighs, trying to regulate his breathing, hand still grasping nick’s own, with zero intention of letting go, while the other one flies to his chest, pressing against it and those scratches. “ okay’s .. debatable, but sure? i mean i’ve been used as a scratching post, but … could’ve been worse? “ lips quirk up into an awkward smile, trying to keep the tone light, but there’s a small shake to his tone. keep it together, dylan, come on. “ what about you? where’d you learn to shoot like that? “ that’s it, move the conversation from himself to something else.
Hand still holding onto Dylan’s, Nick stepped in front of him to get a better look at the damage done to his chest. A concentrated and worried frown was on his face, eyes studying the wounds carefully to try to gauge the severity of it. There were bits of torn fabric that made it somewhat difficult to see, but there was a fair bit of blood and taking the time to bandage it up was probably ideal. ❝ I’ll admit I’m shit at showing my emotions, so maybe I’m a hypocrite or whatever for saying this, but it’s...it’s okay to like, not be okay, you know? I wouldn’t be so happy if I was used as a scratching post either. ❞ Nick could hear the way Dylan’s voice was unsteady, and he knew him to be someone who made jokes as a sort of defense mechanism. ❝ Oh, uh, I learned how to handle a firearm when I was living in Australia. In a controlled environment sort of thing. Never liked hunting trips much though. ❞ It was never for sport, but he still wasn’t a fan of hunting and killing animals. He only did it because of his dad. Those peanut butter butter pops would’ve been his if Kaitlyn hadn’t showed him up. Nick was easily better than Jacob, but it took him time to line up his shots, whereas Kaitlyn was able to rapidly fire them off and still hit the target every time, as if she was some sort of expert. ❝ We should probably focus on you though, not my super impressive marksman skills, ❞ he teased, offering him a smile before throwing a look over his shoulder. The door was still barricaded, but they’d have to leave soon if they wanted to tend to Dylan’s wounds.
bxnafide:
“You–… you want me to… uh- get on?” as he spoke he leaned himself against the wooden railing, watching Nick crouch down beside the first step with his shoulders squared. Oh, he was serious. Okay. Lips pressed in a thin line, Ryan couldn’t help but feel badly about how all this unfolded, but he knew it wasn’t his fault in the slightest. He just wasn’t a small guy by any means, and sure he wasn’t exactly bulked up but he knew he’d have to be heavy. Swallowing thickly, he groaned as he maneuvered to do what was asked of him, hands coming down to rest on Nick’s shoulders. He adjusted himself so that hopefully when his friend stood he’d be balanced and not topple them, but it was hard to get a proper grip as pain seared through every inch of his being. He would have plenty of time to be embarrassed about all this later, if they made it out alive in the first place.
“Alright I– I think I’m settled.” he bit out, a hand coming up to wipe blood that had started to trickle down his forehead, “shit…” Maybe once inside and patched up, when Nick explored the lodge, Ryan could hangout in Mr. H’s office and call… who? The police? Paramedics? He just wanted to be some form of help during all this. As much as he wanted to do all that, they also ran the risk of Nick being alone, and was that really a good idea in this moment without any proper defense? The other had said to take things one step at a time, but it didn’t sit well with him.
“I’ve got the keys for the.. infirmary.” muffled words left him as his chest seized, spasms agitating whatever had been broken in the attack. “I- we should have access to everything..”
❝ I figure it beats going up the stairs like an old man. You’re gonna get nowhere fast with that leg, ❞ Nick explained, knowing that climbing those stairs would be a slow and agonizing process for the type of injury Ryan had. It would be faster to just carry him the rest of the way, and being inside the lodge sooner rather than later was ideal for two reasons. One, it was possible that they were being stalked by the creature that attacked them. And two, Ryan was losing a lot of blood, and too much lost would send him into shock. He wanted to stop the bleeding as soon as possible. Once Ryan had positioned himself to the best of his abilities, hands settling to grip at his shoulders, Nick grabbed onto the bottom part of the railing to assist him in carefully getting to his feet. Being mindful of his injury while gripping his legs to hold him, he then began climbing up the stairs. It wasn’t as easy as it would be carrying someone like Abi or Kaitlyn, but he knew he was capable. ❝ You have the keys? That makes this so much easier. ❞ In an already difficult situation, trying to break into a room wouldn’t have been ideal. When they reached the top, he proceeded to enter the lodge through the doors and made his way towards the infirmary, pausing outside of it and carefully lowering Ryan to allow him to stand again. It wouldn’t be for long, because one the door was open, he’d be able to rest on the bed inside. For now though, he kept his arm around his waist to steady him. ❝ Finally. One last step. ❞ All they needed was the key to unlock the door, which Ryan claimed to have on him.
I’m gonna work on replies. I’m forgetful and can’t keep track of anything, so please nudge me if there’s something you’ve been waiting on <3
