my absolute favorite part of tumblr is how much you guys hate symbolism and like to pretend english teachers made up symbolism and authors never intended to write it. symbolism is what saves books from being boring and lifeless. i need you guys to understand how lazy and childish you look when you complain about having to find symbolism in books made for finding symbolism

Also symbolism doesn't have to be conscious. Language is -laden- with all sorts of meanings with so many layers and dimensions from so many sources. Even if you're like "the curtains are blue", there could be all manner of meanings anyway that the author just hasn't personally reflected on. That's why writers who 'don't do symbolism' just end up reiterating dominant ideas/ power dynamics etc because their symbolism is just the ever present symbols within our language already as they are usually deployed.

Animal Crossing GameCube was so heartless. Villagers would randomly paint your roof. It was so hard to make money. One time a villager sold me a mystery item without even asking and took all the money I was carrying. 12 thousand bells. It was a pitfall seed.

I have a tendency to beat myself up whenever something I make doesn’t meet my expectations (which is always). The result is that finishing something = bad feelings: I am effectively punishing myself for having created something. The natural reaction to this punishment is an aversion to creation, meaning that my perfectionism is harming me, not only by causing me to despise what I do make and by impeding the creative process, but by attacking even my desire to create.

not to be mean or anything but that american missionary who got killed by the sentinelese was dumb as fuck.

He was a missionary. Somewhere in the Bible, not sure where, it says the world will not end until everyone on earth has heard about Jesus Christ. He was a Christian which means he believed that and he was doing it bc he believed he was called to do so. I don’t know if he was really called to do so or not but if he was he was just being an obidient servant of God. You’re probably not Christian and that’s okay, but he was and so am I. If he really believed he was called to do so for whatever reason, he just wanted to spread the word of God to those people so they could be saved, he wanted to see them worship God on earth, and their souls to be with God in his kingdom of of Heaven. I understand he didn’t speak their language and I’m sure he knew more then just that they were an island in India who didn’t know about Jesus Christ. Anyways, he just wanted to give God to as many people as he could, he wasn’t a “dumb ass” for believing in something that you and other non Christians don’t understand. I don’t have anything against Non Christians but I just thought it was wrong for you to publicly disrespect him like that simply bc you don’t agree and spread something rude/hurtful about someone you didn’t know/understand.

don’t people who haven’t heard of jesus christ go to purgatory? whereas people who have heard of him and still don’t worship him go to hell? so this dumb selfish fuck was actually increasing their chances of going to hell just so that he could bring on the rapture or whatever because not only can he not be bothered waiting till the end of his own miserable life to go to heaven but he really wants to see all the sinners burn as well

Also like Christian missions are just colonialism. Not even neo-colonialism, just straight up out of the 15th c on playbook. That's all they are. Fuck the belief that everyone must hear and believe in your faith. They have theirs and are not interested, as is documented, in being converted.
