I think a trick that works for me when reading my own writing is NOT reading it in my own voice and instead changing how my internal monologue sounds. It helps me look at my writing less from the writer lenses and more from the reader lenses, and also helps my writing sound better in my head. Also it's fun. Read your writing as if it's a raw, impactful line from a movie used in a popular audio for edits. My go to is a solemn, sort of slow and deliberate woman with an RP English accent. Make whatever voice works best with your writing style and story mood.
