"i would only hope so, rivermen must be buried in the mud." was she truly one? amahle was, even if they were an arryn now, but betha? she was a bastard. sure, with a bracken father, but she had never known her mother. maybe her mother was a nobody, had no traditions or allies or people to call her own. maybe she was a noble, from somewhere else and come to pull betha away. betha had no home and amahle had two that they got to pick from. part of it felt unfair to betha, but she knew it was merely the jealousy talking of having more than one place to belong.
she shrugs, body stiffening in ways that amahle had not learned yet. they had been apart for so long, longer than they had been together. amahle had not only married into another region, but had left their home for riverrun at a young age. they would know each other again one day, betha had only hoped this kingsmoot would not divide their houses, but bring them closer together. "i do not believe anyone would fit on that throne of swords. all it has done is made our realm worse off. these people liken the valyrians to gods and gods they are not. a dragon is a beast, wild and meant to stay far away from westeros, yet they are here and killing people who do not deserve it."
there is so much betha wants and yet none of it seems possible. not with nobles fighting for a right that should not have been given to them in the first place. it was pathetic and ridiculous, but whatever she thought did not matter. she had no say in these things, was just another person on the docket for them to overlook. "no, not you. you have always done well, auntie and you will continue to do so." yet, betha does not say what she truly means: the twins. getting to apparently frolic off in the distance with each other like whatever duty that was meant to be on their shoulders didn't matter. that they got to get off scot free and live charmed lives because they had a name that meant something.
she smoothes her dress out as she stands from her place on the garden's bench. perhaps she would take to the kitchens for a snack and retire to her family's chambers for the day, maybe she would go rooting around in the city and find something or somebody to get messy with. she just needed to stop doing so much thinking when her thoughts did not belong with the other nobles. she did not have a title, she was basically the dirt stuck to their boots. "i shall see you soon, do remember to take breaks, you must not get stuck where the rest of us are." she turns to leave before turning back once more, "i love you and whatever shall come of this, i hope to continue loving you and you me."
