idk if you think this sorta thing is contained online or like not a "real issue" you might need to get out more. my fujo roommate said they hadn't even CONSIDERED the lives and stories of female characters before i started pointing out how women are treated in media. people are more than willing to label female characters as temporary inconveniences to the plot and ignore them entirely rather than face them head on- this isn't even addressing the kind of vitriol women recieve for simply taking up precious screen time.

before i hop off my soap box i wanna say this is why there are so few black people in fandom, so few people of colour in fandom. because fandom has a massive issue with accountability. everyone is so defensive about holding onto their "fun hobby" they dont consider who they might be excluding in doing so. it *should* be fun for everyone but it only manages to be fun for a select few. think about why that is and if you're doing your part or not.
