Figments Out Of Fundamentals

ngl whenever I think about malcolm in the middle I go kind of crazy because it truly was one of the most realistic series about working class america in a sitcom to date (as well as being funny as fuck). the parents both worked full time/overtime and struggled to pay their bills. the three boys shared a bedroom. they all lived on top of each other. the yard and house was constantly a mess bc there just wanted time. malcolm was a literal genius but it wasn’t enough—he still had to work full time out of highschool because he wasn’t privileged. the show reminded us that there’s not just one type of intelligence (reese flunked school but was a gifted chef). you could still have passions and hobbies even if you were poor, it just wasn’t as easy. the mom and dad loved each other, but they didn’t always like each other. the comedy came from the mundane day to day (despite there being outlandish and slapstick scenarios). they all loved each other despite being dysfunctional. idk I feel like it belongs in a display case it was so good

not to alarm anyone but is anybody else worried about how everybody is fucking stupid

LITERALLY some of you don’t fucking know what “disposable income is” like i cannot stress ENOUGH that someone who was able to get animal crossing on day 1 of launch or a ps5 preorder that is still only working minimum wage job and/or cannot pay their rent on a monthly basis is NOT your enemy bruv they are NOT “the rich” like PLEASE cement that in your head. 

The way some people will try to constantly redefine wealth just so they can put a big scarlet R on any person who’s ever experienced a single moment of pleasure or relief is so fucking wild to me. “You can’t be moral unless every day of your life is a joyless struggle full of deprivation and suffering.” Like JFC you’re Catholic, we get it.

I just really don't think Battlestar Galactica gets nearly enough credit for blatantly and unmistakably telling 2006 Bush era America that Terrorism Is A Valid Response To Oppression Actually. Star Trek TNG and DS9 hinted at it with the Bajoran resistance to the Cardassian occupation but BSG was way more blatant and unignorable about it, and BSG did it during the full hysteria of the War on Terror, not during the calm of the 90s.

One time I was cooking with a girl and we were both bilingual but we didn’t have a language in common so we were just sitting by the fire doing prep work quietly and I was peeling little garlic cloves to mince and she put her hand on my arm to stop me and demonstrated how you’re supposed to press on the clove with the flat side of your knife to break the shell off all at once to peel it and I was like oh! And I imitated her and she nodded in approval and we went back to quietly peeling and mincing the garlic and I don’t want to be hyperbolic but in that moment I was like wow I truly understand the universal thread of human love and connection inherent in our souls or whatever

i have thought about this post frequently for at least half a decade, and i'm no longer certain it even exists
