i don't know man, i just wish that we could [suddenly realising i'm coming dangerously close to expressing a real and earnest thought instead of filtering everything through several layers of intangible running bits] blow up the entire world. or something.
POV: you opened tumblr dot com on april 1st 2024
Basically, it boils down to this:
The preponderance of evidence is that most trending calling posts on Tumblr alleging sexual misconduct by trans women are fabricated by the same relatively small group of bad-faith actors, and that these bullshit callout posts outnumber the legit ones by a considerable margin.
If you think you can tell the legit callout posts and the bullshit ones apart just by looking at them, you're almost certainly wrong.
Like most mechanisms of social control which are based on ostracism, callout posts tend to be most effective against people who are already in a position of vulnerability, and concomitantly, tend to have no significant long-term effect when deployed against people in positions of power or authority.
What all this adds up to is that even leaving the moral dimension of the act aside, from a purely pragmatic perspective, reblogging that callout post accusing a random trans woman you've never heard of of being a dogfucker or what-have-you is an action which, in a worst-case scenario, will contribute to ruining an innocent person's life, and in a best-case scenario, is likely to accomplish nothing whatsoever.
Folks often justify reblogging callout posts without performing due diligence under the rubric of "better safe than sorry", but any realistic assessment of the likely outcomes will tell you that the true "better safe than sorry" course of action is to keep your damn mouth shut!
"But I thought we were supposed to always believe allegations of sexual misconduct" well, the thing is, "false allegations of sexual misconduct are rare" and "false allegations of sexual misconduct disproportionately target specific visible minorities" are both true statements. There's no algorithm for being a good person – you really do have to think this shit through every single time it comes up.
When I was in ninth grade I wanted to challenge what I saw as a very stupid dress code policy (not being allowed to wear spikes regardless of the size or sharpness of the spikes). My dad said to me, “What is your objective?”
He said it over and over. I contemplated that. I wanted to change an unfair dress code. What did I stand to gain? What did I stand to lose? If what I really wanted was to change the dress code, what would be my most effective potential approach? (He also gave me Discourses on the Fall of Rome by Titus Livius, Machiavelli’s magnum opus. Of course he’d already given me The Prince, Five Rings, and The Art of War.)
I ultimately printed out that phrase, coated it in Mod Podge, and clipped it to my bathroom mirror so I would look at it and think about it every day.
What is your objective?
Forget about how you feel. Ask yourself, what do you want to see happen? And then ask, how can you make it happen? Who needs to agree with you? Who has the power to implement this change? What are the points where you have leverage over them? If you use that leverage now, will you impair your ability to use it in the future? Getting what you want is about effectiveness. It is not about being an alpha or a sigma or whatever other bullshit the men’s right whiners are on about now. You won’t find any MRA talking points in Musashi, because they are not relevant.
I had no clear leverage on the dress code issue. My parents were not on the PTA; neither were any of my friend’s parents who liked me. The teachers did not care about this. Ultimately I just wore what I wanted, my patent leather collar from Hot Topic with large but flattened spikes, and I had guessed correctly—the teachers also did not care enough to discipline me.
I often see people on tumblr, mostly the very young, flail around in discourse. They don’t have an objective. They don’t know what they want to achieve, and they have never thought about strategizing and interpersonal effectiveness. No one can get everything they want by being an asshole. You must be able to work with other people, and that includes smiling when you hate them.
Read Machiavelli. Start with The Prince, but then move on to Discourses. Read Musashi’s Five Rings. Read The Art of War. They’re classics for a reason. They can’t cover all situations, but they can do more for how you think about strategizing than anything you’re getting in middle school and high school curricula.
Don’t vote third party unless you can tell me not only what your objective is but also why this action stands a meaningful chance of accomplishing it. Otherwise, back up and approach your strategy from a new angle. I don’t care how angry you are with Biden right now. He knows about it, and he is both trying to do something and not doing enough. I care about what will happen to millions of people if we have another Trump presidency. Look up Ross Perot, and learn from our past. Find your objective. If it is to stop the genocide in Palestine now, call your elected representatives now. They don’t care about emails; they care about phone calls, because they live in the past. I know this because I shadowed a lobbyist, because knowing how power works is critical to using it.
How do you think I have gotten two clinics to start including gender care in their planning?
Start small. Chip away. Keep working. Find your leverage; figure out how and when to effectively use it. Choose your battles, so that you can concentrate on the battle at hand instead of wasting your resources in many directions. Learn from the accumulated wisdom of people who spent their lives learning by doing, by making mistakes, by watching the mistakes of their enemies.
Don’t be a dickhead. Be smarter than I was at 14. Ask yourself: what is your objective?

There are so few characters in media as chewable as this lamb ʕ•̫͡•ʔ
Sometimes I wish we would start calling out the performative radicalism on this site for the poser bullshit it is. "Remember, it's always morally correct to kill a cop!" "Don't forget to firebomb your local government office!" "Wow, it sure would be a shame if these instructions on how to make a molotov cocktail got spread around!"
Okay. But you're not killing cops or firebombing government offices. You are posting on a dying microblogging website to a carefully-curated echo chamber that has radicalized itself into thinking that taking the absolute most extreme position on any subject is praxis but that anyone discussing the most practical way to effect actual change is your sworn enemy. You do not have the street cred OR the activist cred to be talking about killing cops, babe.
Your posts keep making me think of this and I finally got around to mocking it up
do people who only know doctor who via fandom osmosis know that dr. who is dating the time machine
i forgot to mention the time machines in the show aren't actually machines but sentient and often organic nightmare dimensions. hope this clears some things up.
none of you are prepared for whats going on in doctor who
Finally watched The Batman (2022) and it was very good, do recommend, but I'm also annoyed at everyone who was like "omg it was so on point of them to make the villain an incel!" because he was very clearly an accelerationist. and while I realise it was a lot of people just using the only Very Online White Man Terrorist word they knew the difference matters because while the ideologies frequently overlap they aren't the same and framing it as incel shit does a disservice to the film's showing you how he became an accelerationist. and in the current climate him being an accelerationist means the film is saying more than if it meant for him to be an incel and i just, argh, this is what studying the very online far right and having a film degree does to you
#today I learned a new word #good meta
Oh yeah explanation for those of you who haven't had your brains fried learning the nuances of online far-right ideology: "accelerationism" refers to the belief that the collapse of society is inevitable, and that "real change"* can only be achieved through having society collapse and then rebuilding it from the ground up, so doing things to accelerate the collapse is the most useful political action. It is opposed to reformism, considering it a waste of time that isn't capable of making any real change.
The vast majority of accelerationist stuff out there is right-wing (e.g. doomsday preppers), but there are "left-wing" framings of it where people believe capitalism is going to collapse and the only way to achieve communism/socialism is to make it collapse and rebuilding from the ashes. Regardless of whether it's left- or right-wing flavoured it tends to valorise acts that damage society and social relations, rather than e.g. helping build systems that would support people if or when a major collapse occurs.
*if you have seen The Batman (2022) it should be clear that the film was not being subtle

idk i think what is interesting about astarion to me is the fact that you have a guy who started out an asshole (normal type) and then spent two hundred years in a very carefully and specifically crafted (by the writers of the game) Become A Terrible Person Or Die nexus. like it wasn’t just a Torment Nexus, he wasn’t just in hell, i feel like this is very important not to forget, he was in hell but it was specifically a hell designed to, over time, kill the empathy of anyone trapped in it, kill their brain’s ability to prioritize other peoples’ survival, to numb one’s conscience.
and then he gets yanked directly out of that nexus and despite that the fact that he spent, again, two hundred years in a situation that was sort of a rock tumbler for the human soul, there’s still a pebble left in there. and it’s a pebble that can be grown if placed in the right environment and provided with a support network.
so i think it becomes interesting because it really does i think force you to start thinking about the limits of free will even on as basic a level as the human personality. i think the fact that he becomes such a different character based on player choice, that his end morality is so hugely dependent on player choice, is uhhh. a big part of what the devs were going for probably.
it makes a lot of people really uncomfortable to acknowledge some bad people would be good people if literally nothing changed except they had a good support network and different circumstances. especially because it means the opposite is also true. which is even more uncomfortable.
you know that part in the beginning of fellowship of the ring where gandalf is talking about how gollum is ultimately only like that because of the ring and gandalf thinks his story is sad? astarion is kinda like if they sexualized gollum.
wait there's people who think the Cheshire Cat is evil??? he's an annoying, riddle giving trickster who helps you in the most irritating way possible and challenges ur views and beliefs. he's not good or evil. he's a pain in the ass

Snode (noun) A snake thicker than it is long.
this is not true. not as in "that's fake there is no snake thicker than it is long" that snake literally just isn't thicker than it is long.
The photo is looking at it lengthwise. Its head is at the very top pf the picture and its tails are on the right and left of frame.

days are not real.
days are only a cartographic representation of time.
should the sun not rise, should the earth cease to spin, time would still march inexorably on.
calendars were invented to raise money with risqué photoshoots. they are not prisons.
I can choose what day I am going to have today.
It's virtuous and morally correct to have my thirsty thursday while everyone else is having monday morning.
