three loafs! with friends and mama hehehe from last semester.

1. end of year baking destress with julia and niyati = candied ginger + chocolate banana bread

some mesopotamian bread i made for a final—because i’m normal and spend a normal amount of time on things and baking.

in the epic of gilgamesh, in his attempt to gain immortality, Gilgamesh faces a trial in which he must stay awake for 6 days and 7 nights and so naturally he falls asleep immediately. for every night he sleeps a loaf of bread is baked and as he fails to earn his immortality the bread (a necessity of life) experiences decay. i technically made 7 loaves of bread (5 different types, with one repeated thrice because it’s really hard finding ancient sumerian bread recipes when you can’t read cuneiform!!!!), and i did not make them rotting away because who wants to eat that?!

the loaves are as follows: spiced bappir (made with homemade barley flour), a leavened bread (rye with farrow pre-ferment), oat bread (with homemade oat flour), 3 loaves of khubz tannour (made in a regular oven, sadly), and a imagined “offerings bread” with garlic and onion.
