If you look back at interviews from the leisure era or even pre leisure then it's strange to see that graham was characterized as the horny one alongside Alex at times. The soft boy persona didn't come until a few years later. Ofc everyone had a multifaceted personality but in light of everything it's interesting (for lack of a better word) to think about how much of the soft boy feminist thing is real and how much of it is a mask
I think about this part in the Blur biography a lot. It's been really heavy on my mind since the allegations came out - obviously the bad alcoholic behavior from Graham is troubling, but the fact Damon the day after was trying to tell the journalist to not write about Graham's violent behavior is...troubling to say the least. Graham, back then at least, was difficult to handle. It's not fair to judge someone when they were at their worst point of addiction addiction, but I will say this excerpt shows the dynamic between Graham and the rest of the band essentially being his caretaker/vouching for his bad behavior. I can't blame them for that, I mean Graham is Damon's best friend, but it is troubling and infers a lot regarding Graham's behavior with very young fans and how the band may have reacted to a lot of problematic behavior from him. Also Graham hitting Sm*ggy is pretty awful. But I digress. I know this was Graham's low point, I don't want to be cruel, but I think it is telling.
