Lunch 8/10/2017: BAO Soho, 53 Lexington Street, London
Shared: Taiwanese fried chicken, beef soup, classic bao, confit pork bao, lamb shoulder bao, fried Horlicks ice cream bao.
Me: Yakult float.
The husband: The Terroriser cocktail.
Highly lauded by chefs on Eats Abroad so we had to check this place out. It did not disappoint. The recommended Taiwanese fried chicken was a light and crispy delight, and the classic bao—a favorite of one of BAO’s owners—overflows with braised pork, peanut powder, and fermented greens.
The fluffy, pillow-like baos are made fresh in-house, and the fillings are full of flavor. Our favorite was the lamb shoulder, dressed with coriander sauce, garlic mayo, and soy pickled chilli.Â
The drinks were a terrific complement. My Yakult float was made with fermented pineapple soda and was topped with Yakult foam, studded with large salt crystals. The Terroriser featured a blend of scotch and raspberry hibiscus oolong.Â
