and if love isn’t part of the equation then what reason does aaron have to choose him? he’s got nothing to offer him that john can’t give him. he’s not the man he used to be. he’s fucked up too hard and there’s nothing he can do to fix it or fix himself. he’s a lost cause, a plague, he destroys everything he hold dear. he’s always known he wasn’t worthy of aaron (not least of all bc everyone kept fucking telling him so) and now he’s got incontrovertible proof that that’s true and he knows that it’s all his fault. he broke the circle of trust first by leaving aaron behind. he knows this. he knows all the hurt he caused to aaron and to himself……and YET he can’t not dig his heart out of his chest and give it to him. he knows he’s going to be rejected (and with good reason) but he just can’t stop himself. he knows their love is doomed because of him but he’s incapable of letting them go.
