[...] Apako will serve as the representative of “Key Populations” on the board. Key Populations refer to marginalised communities disproportionately affected by diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, including transgender individuals, sex workers, men who have sex with men, and people who inject drugs. Apako is a transman, meaning a person who despite being identified as female at birth, identifies as a man.

Very cool to see!!! Especially since trans men&mascs have been extremely underserved in HIV prevention and care (as well as healthcare in general).

I speak from experience - from being in the "boy's world" of the US Navy. Hazing is almost always abuse. Physical, mental, sexual abuse. It's fueled by the patriarchy - as you noted, in order to determine if a man or boy is masculine enough, and to punish him if he is not.

having positive relationships with older men in my family really makes the thought of going on T less scary. idk, I use to be terrified of having a receding hair line, but in combination with getting older and repairing my bond with my older brother, when I think about it happening now, it's a "huh, I'll look a bit more like him." and it's actually nice.

i hate talking about dysphoria with cis ppl because they immediately clock it as body dysmorphia, and only as body dysmorphia. (i say only bc some trans ppl can and do experience both)

i can't talk about how i hate how my thighs make me feel/look feminine because they always say "but you look fine!" or "i think you look amazing!" or "but you should love them!"

and it's so hard to describe dysphoria, especially to ppl who don't experience it, or who don't want to understand it isn't dysmorphia

and no matter how hard you try to explain they always try to make you love this body you have because "you should love yourself as you are!"

but i do love myself. but not quite exactly how i am. i love what i know I can be. i love knowing that one day i'll have top surgery scars i can trace with my fingers and a scratchy beard from T. i love knowing that I can eventually do my silly little effeminate gestures without hating how it makes me look. i love knowing that eventually i can look in a mirror and grin at the man i've become.

but that's not right now. i may cry a little when a shirt doesn't fit the way it should, but i don't hate the body that makes it that way. I may feel a pit in my stomach when I realize the way that i'm standing makes me look girly, but i don't hate that i'm standing that way.

i don't hate that i used to be a girl but i hate when people still think i am.

i don't hate my body, i just hate how it isn't what it's supposed to be quite yet. could that make any sense to the cis folks reading this?

I am trans and I love my body, just sometimes it doesn't love me back. and one day it will.

i know people on here are obsessed with saying boygirl and girlboy, but if you do that you need to be level-headed about multigender and intersex people. you have to accept that there are lesbians who are men and gays who are women. if you make jokes about being a girl who's a boy or talk about how much you love boys who are girls, but pull the whole "i'm a lesbian men dni," thing you completely failed and your #boygirl uwu card is revoked.

i don't know how to tell you that gays and lesbians are also involved in the whole "being a girl and a boy" thing, and yes, that includes lesbians who are/partially men and gays who are/partially women. cope. the lesbian, gay, intersex, and trans communities are not about you. you can't profess your love for a group of people and then violently strip away their autonomy and ability to correctly identify themselves.

multigender people have the right to define what our relationships are and what our attraction is like. asserting that lesbians can NEVER be men and gays can NEVER be women is quite literally just re-creating the binary, again. you can't be fixated on creating a binary for terms and people that blatantly choose to step outside of it. stop shoving a square peg into a round hole.

i think it's funny when people pull the "but they're scaring children!" argument when talking about trans and queer people presenting and being visibly queer in public. i need you to know as a genderqueer/nonbinary intersex person who routinely goes out in drag and has been actively trying as hard as possible to not pass for the past 2 years, i can tell you that the most heartwarming and gender affirming reactions ive ever gotten have been out of random kids.

ive never had a kid glare or run away screaming from me. i have definitely seen kids go ??? because i could tell i was definitely the first queer person they had ever seen and they've never had to try to process what someone else's gender could be before. most of the time their eyes light up or they look excited, like they realized that oh wow, people can be like that too! i never have kids be invasive, rude, or call me names.

i've witnessed curiosity, wonder, confusion, and joy, but i've never once scared a kid. even with my big beard, chest hair, deep voice, and hairy legs. what i do see, though, are doors to acceptance being opened and bigots desperately trying to slam them shut.

spent some time with our neighbors today. their kids were playing nearby on a trampoline and after a while, one of the kids went. "i can't tell if you're a girl or a boy! you are wearing lipstick, but you have a beard! and you are wearing pink, but you have a deep voice! i can't tell!"

i responded with "hey, that's okay!" and his mother responded with "your favorite color is pink," and the kid stopped bouncing and went. "oh!" and went on about his day, no longer questioning things. he didn't need anymore info than that. kids aren't scared of queerness, and don't reject nonbinary, gnc, and genderqueer people. they're just curious about us, and that's a good thing. if you just take the time to explain, they get it.
