Having survived the impossible twice, Tori Lucetta doesn’t know if she’s the luckiest person alive, or the unluckiest to ever live. Being struck by lightning at seven years old had faded mostly to a fun fact and a commemorative tattoo, until a second strike twenty years later causes a whole slew of health problems.
Forced to move back to her hometown to be near family while she recovers, she’s juggling her job at a local tattoo studio with seemingly constant medical appointments and trying to adjust to her new normal while grieving the person that she was. When she meets the flirty florist next door who seems determined to see the best in her, she tries to bury the more difficult parts of herself to hide in the fantasy of who he thinks she is.
Parker Coleman’s world upturned when his parents died at eight years old. In the darkest time of his life, he met a sunshiney girl who reminded him what hope feels like. Now, at 29, the uncle who stepped up as a father for him is engaged to a woman with kids, and Parker privately worries he’s about to lose his family a second time. When he least expects it, little miss sunshine walks right into his flower shop and takes his world by storm.
This is a story about appreciating the mundane in the wake of tragedy, a realistic look at self-acceptance, and the courage it takes to let someone love the more difficult pieces of yourself.
This story pulls a lot from my own experience becoming disabled in my 20s from eleven concussions (I know, almost as insane as being struck by lightning twice, right?) and from a lifelong journey with my mental health.
