You're actually asking about something with 2 different solutions depending on what you actually want.

If you want to be able to specify that one particular character be part of a ship (and they can be shipped with anyone, romantically or platonically), then I recommend using a browser extension called Multishipper Savior.

It's a user script, but it works the same way as an extension would once you have it installed. Most mobile browers disallow extensions, so if you're a Chrome user you might want to switch over to Firefox or another browser that allows them.

The second solution I can offer, when you want to try to make sure that a character is actually the focus of a fic instead of a side character who is nonetheless tagged, is to filter for their name in the summary.

You can do this by going to the tag that you're interested in reading, tapping on the Filters button, and using the Include filters to include your character. If their name doesn't appear in the top 10 listed you can still type it into the "Other tags to include" box.

After doing that, scroll down to the Search Within Results box and type in:

summary: "Character Name" OR summary: name OR summary: nickname

(if the name is two or more words, put it in quotation marks, make sure the OR is capitalized)

That will get you filtered results where the character is tagged and they are mentioned in the summary. I find that when they are named in the summary, they have a much more important role in the fic.
