Something I love about the Lost Boys movie that is made even clearer by the different music styles in the musical, is that all three Emersons are experiencing three different story genres.
Michael is experiencing a true gothic horror romance.
Sam is experiencing a monster squad-style coming of age teenage horror comedy.
Lucy is experiencing a second chance romance, complete with her children trying to get in the way of her new relationship
This becomes exceptionally clear when you listen to Secret Comes Out, My Brother Is A..., and The Good Part back to back.
OKAY to satisfy my own curiosity, after having just seen a series of gifs from the bridge sequence, on here, I tracked down the passage from the making-of book, Lost in the Shadows, where Kiefer discusses it, specifically.

The way it’s portrayed in Kiefer’s full quote, whether they ever filmed David catching Michael or not, it seems clear he’s just talking about the canon-existing film scenes. Not anything only in the screenplay and/or novelization.
It’s interesting that Kiefer feels this strongly just about what we DO see. But think about it. Michael casually asking, “What’s goin on?” The light and flirty banter.
David putting his arm around Michael’s shoulders. Michael (foolishly) trusting David enough to hang from the bridge, even while believing he might get seriously hurt, or worse.
David sensuously descending into the fog/clouds, soundlessly, and Michael crying out for him.
Not “Help! Anybody!”
Yes, they were probably in a remote area.
But he doesn’t want ANYBODY.
He wants David. And he wants David to be okay.

Skittery is a nail biter, and Swifty is a skin picker. Bumlets grabs their hands whenever they start to do this, like the sweetheart he is. but if they’re both doing it simultaneously, Bumlets will attempt to grab all four hands at once, very awkwardly too.
we’ve already established that Skittery CANNOT cook (bless his heart). Bumlets is the master chef, so he’ll make most of the meals, SEASONING APPROPRIATELY OFC. Swifty can and will cook, but he prefers baking, and will make cupcakes on a weekly basis. when his partners are in the kitchen, Skittery just sits there like “ahhhh what do i do”
Swifty claims he doesn’t want to wear his boyfriends’ clothes, because his “are more stylish”, but he’ll wear them when he’s alone or when he’s “cold”.
the three of their emotions link up, if that makes sense. like when Skittery is feeling depressed or hopeless, Swifty will literally cling to his arm and maybe cry. and Bumlets’ heart will break and he’ll search for anything to make his bfs feel better; trinkets, food, movies, etc.

Pretends he’s unbothered 24/7 but is actually lowkey one of the most observant newsies. He notices who’s upset before they say anything. Will NOT acknowledge that he cares though.
Competitive over the dumbest stuff.

He and Race have beef but it’s exclusively “I love you but if you breathe wrong I’m starting a war.”

When Jack goes into Leader Mode™ during the strike, Skittery is one of the loudest hype men in the room. He thrives in chaos and solidarity.
Lowkey would absolutely start the chanting at a protest. He’s got the lungs for it.
MUSHY BOI:
He’s way smarter than people realize. Quiet observer energy. He clocks everything.
Dry humor. He’ll say something completely unhinged in the calmest voice and then go back to eating like nothing happened.
Not the loudest in the room, but when he speaks? It lands.
Chronic eye-roller. Especially at Race.
Lowkey the best at mental math during distribution. Doesn’t brag. Just hands Jack the correct number like, “You’re welcome.”
Reads whatever newspapers they don’t sell. Knows random facts about the world and drops them at the weirdest times.
Definitely the one who explains things to the younger newsies when Jack is being dramatic instead of helpful.
Him and Race are SUCH a duo. Race is chaos. Mush is the deadpan narrator.

Gets along surprisingly well with Davey because they can both sit in silence without it being awkward.
Teases Jack in a very “I know your secrets” way.

Which newsies were real and which ones were made up?
Excellent question!
The most well known of course is Kid Blink, whose real name was Louis Baletti. Other real 1899 strike leaders included Ed "Racetrack" Higgins (leader of the Brooklyn union), "Spot" Conlon, "Crutch" Morris (also called "One-Leg Morris," secretary of the union), and "Boots" McAleen/McAleenan (noted as being just 11 years old at the time of the strike by The New York Sun).
Jack Kelly and David Jacobs exist in a dubious realm between fact and fiction. Jack Kelly is based on a few different boys including Kid Blink, and David is at least partially inspired by "Dave" Simmons/Simons, president of the union.
Apart from these characters, many of the original cast of newsies were based on/named after real newsboys.

Of the original 1992 newsies, the only characters not directly inspired or based on historical newsboys are Specs and Itey.
As far as I'm aware, the stage musical newsies Albert, Buttons, Elmer, Finch, Henry, Jo Jo, Romeo, and Tommy Boy were all made up. (Though there were likely multiple newsboys with the first names Albert, Elmer, or Henry.)
Mod Strings has Opinions: Why the Delancey Brothers are More Redeemable than the Other Villains
A point that seems to be popular on Tumblr is that the Delancey brothers are only redeemed because they’re young and attractive, not because they actually have more potential or positive qualities than older villains. While this may play some part in their popularity, I think there is another reason why the Delancey brothers are more popular: they’re more obviously working class.
Pulitzer is the most obviously wealthy- he lives in a massive house, has a fancy office, and is completely disconnected from any normal person’s life. Snyder also has a moderate amount of wealth- he can afford to hire a small police force, buy lavish food, and bribe judges to send more children his way. On top of that, both of these men made their fortunes from directly or indirectly exploiting poor children. They could have made money without that, and still had more than enough to be comfortable.
With Wiesel, the water gets a little murkier. He is much closer in status to the newsies than to Pulitzer, but he is also presumably a white, cis, straight, able-bodied, neurotypical, and adult man. He has a significantly better chance of getting a different job than the newsies ever will, and he still chooses one that puts him in a position of power over them. He also doesn’t have to do his job the way he does- it would cost him nothing to respect the newsies. But still, he chooses not to.
The Delancey brothers, however, are a different story. For one, they’re most likely still children (under 21, by 1899 standards). They’re certainly closer in age to the newsies than to any of the other villains. On top of that, they work for their uncle. This could mean that they couldn’t get a job anywhere else and had to resort to begging him, or that they’re under the care of their uncle. Either way, they could have been pressured into taking their job by Wiesel.
Oscar and Morris being young also impacts more than their looks- it makes them more naive and vulnerable. We know from their trading cards and interviews with their actors that they were treated very poorly as children, which inspires sympathy in a lot of fans who also were treated poorly. It also means that they have time to grow and change into better people, whereas older villains evidently chose not to.
In a musical about brotherhood and friendship, it’s hard to leave a pair of sympathetic villains without a family of their own. It’s like they’re begging for second chances. All in all, while the Delancey brothers’ good looking actors may factor into their popularity somewhat, there are also textual traits that make them more sympathetic and redeemable than the older villains.

okay. he knows albert isn't a hugging kind of person. he never has been. he's never seen albert hug anyone.
"well, i just ain't touchy like that," albert had said at one point. it's true. he pulls away from anyone who tries to touch him, yells at people for getting too close, and is generally a very closed off person. defensive and angry and aggressive when people get near.
"it makes me itchy," he'd said. finch had never tried to touch him, even though albert said he really did like him. they aren't anything. they just are. finch gets as close as albert has ever let anyone. so close he can sometimes feel albert's breath on his neck. he doesn't touch albert.
"i'm violent. people who touch me get hurt." finch nodded, even though it hurt to know albert thought like that about himself. albert is violent. everyone knows that, knows that he shows up at the lodging house with blood pouring from his nose and bruises all over his face. but he can be gentle. finch has seen it.
"i like ya so much but i can't- i can't hug ya." albert scares himself. he hates that he's violent and wants to be normal. he can't have finch touching him because he'll get addicted to it, addicted to finch holding him. and then he'll end up hurting him, bruising him, and he'll feel worse than he ever has before.
so finch stands by albert at all times. near enough he can almost feel heat radiating off of him. he takes as much as he can get. when they get soaked by the bulls for striking, he stays up, laying in albert's bed until he gets back. albert stumbles in, bloodied and bruised, and gasping for breath. finch sits near as albert strips off his shirt and cleans up every cut and bruised he has, on his chest and stomach and neck and face and-
"i'm okay. just don't want ya helping me." albert bandages his hands. finch watches because albert won't let him help. he itches to hold albert, to hug him and make him feel better. tell him everything's gonna be okay. but albert jumps away when he tries, angry and scared.
"it'll be fine. we're gonna win." he wishes he had albert's confidence in their strike. jack comes out of the building, smirking like usual. he hoists les up on his shoulders, grabs davey, and announces that they won.
everyone screams, grabs at each other, jumps around. finch screams with albert, jumping with him. and then stops as albert yanks him into a bone-crushing hug. albert holds him so hard he can't breathe right, squeezing him. finch doesn't say anything, wraps his wrms back around albert's waist. he feels albert press his forehead against his neck and then his lips brush against his shoulder.
albert doesn't hug right. his arms dig hard into finch's sides, his hands grip his hips too tight, he's too warm, he doesn't quite know how to hold someone. but he fits against finch painfully well.
"am i hurting you?" finch shakes his head. because how could albert be hurting him when he's holding finch so tight? he's not hurting him, albert can't hurt him when he's hugging him- neither albert's bruising grip on his hips nor his too-warm skin against finch's hurts.
