"Oh my god, Paul get off me!” You exclaimed through laughter as Paul basically attempted to tackle you from where he was sitting beside you.
He was attempting to pin you down on the rugged couch, his playful energy palpable as you got a face full of his blonde hair. The two of you were just play-fighting, nothing more.
You pushed back against him, causing Paul to laugh and shove you harder.
“It's way too early for all your energy.” Star commented, rolling her eyes before turning her attention back to Laddie. Laddie was sitting comfortably on the bed, letting Star do his hair. You'd recently upgraded from the bed to the roost, sleeping with the boys now that you were a full vampire.
You were happy for the upgrade, no longer having to share the only mattress with Star, Laddie, and Michael.
Paul raised his head, a massive grin still on his face. “Ah, chill out girl.”
Marko stood behind the couch with his hands braced on the back, laughing at Paul's antics.
David was nowhere to be found, having left very early after sunset, dragging Michael behind him.
The vibes were good this morning. Everyone was happy, especially Paul if his energy was anything to go off of.
Paul continued to wrestle with you, forcing his body weight on top of you as Marko laughed harder at your struggle.
But despite losing at the game of wrestling, you were laughing, laughing so hard you felt your stomach cramping.
However, one of them wasn't exactly fond of this interaction.
Dwayne was sitting on one of the many concrete rubble pieces, fists tightened as he watched Paul basically smothering you into the couch.
Your relationship with Dwayne was… interesting to say the least.
One day he'd be feverishly making out with you behind a shop on the boardwalk. The next day, he would barely be able to look you in the eyes.
One night he'd have you in his arms and wouldn't let you leave his side while out hunting, the next he'd be distant and disappear to hunt on his own.
You couldn't quite pin how he felt about you.
“Paul.” Dwayne suddenly called, voice echoing off the walls of the cave. “Get off of them. Right now.”
Paul looked up, the smile slightly wavering on his face at Dwayne's extremely serious tone.
He stood up, leaving you on the couch. The playful smile returned as he realized what was the real cause of the sudden call-out.
“Ay, relax man. Just a bit of roughhousing is all! The little vamp can take it.”
“Yeah, they can take it!” Marko chimed in as his hand came down to pat your shoulder firmly. You'd grown familiar with the rough attitude of the pack.
You smiled at Dwayne, nodding. “Yeah, no big deal. They ain't hurtin’ me.” You reassured.
Dwayne didn't like it, they way you said it like nothing was different. Like it didn't matter.
Dwayne stood up suddenly from the ledge, his boots heavy on the concrete as he stomped over to the couch and grabbed your wrist. He pulled you to your feet.
“Outside. Now. We're having a chat.” He stated firmly. Not a request, not a suggestion, a demand.
Your eyes quickly flickered to everyone else. Marko and Paul were grinning knowingly. Star looked concerned, but not scared for you. Dwayne would never hurt you. Laddie hadn't even looked up from his comic book.
He pulled you with him, walking up the gravel covered steps and out of the cave. You could hear laughter behind you.
The moment your shoes landed on the thick, California sand, you felt yourself being spun around and then slammed against the sharp rocky cliff. Dwayne had pushed you into a small alcove just outside the cave entrance.
His hands landed firmly on your hips, his strong body pinning you in place so you couldn't run away.
“You have his scent all over you.” He growled into your ear.
“C'mon Dwayne… we were just messing around…” you grumbled, feeling a little annoyed by his sudden switch in mood.
“Paul will fuck anything that moves. That includes you, sweetheart.”
“The last thing I want to do is fuck Paul. You're overreacting.”
“I'm not overreacting. I just know Paul.”
You huffed, pushing on his shoulder to make him step back. “At least he would be upfront about it,” you grumbled sourly at him. “Unlike someone who can't even kiss me in public.”
Dwayne's eyes darkened, hands tightening on your waist. You interrupted him before he could say anything.
“Maybe I should just ask him straight up! I think he'd suit me well as a love interest.” A sly smile appeared on your face. You were provoking him, pushing his buttons to test the limits of what you could get away with.
Suddenly, his hand moved from your waist to wrapping around your throat. Your gasp of surprise was shallow.
He leaned in, eyes dark and intense. The tip of his nose almost touched yours.
“Don't. You. Dare.” He growled. “Don't you ever say that shit again.”
Your nerves were immediately inflamed, the danger and desire clouding your brain. Or maybe it was the lack of oxygen. Not that the undead really needed it.
“Why not? It's not like you care about us.” You hissed, your breath being controlled under his rough finger tips.
His hand tightened again and you swallowed thickly. He could feel it against his palm. The sharp edge of rock buried against your skin, Dwayne holding you harder back against it.
“Because you're mine.” He whispered into your ear, voice low and full of anger. “Say it. Say you're mine.”
“Yours…” You whispered, breath shallow. His hand loosened from your neck, letting you catch your breath for a moment.
His hand raised, tilting your chin up so you couldn't look away from his face. “Again.”
“I-I’m… yours.” you panted.
Dwayne's lips covered yours, kissing you possessively as you gave in to it. Your shoulders relaxed and he pulled you in closer.
His hands began to wander, thumbs tracing your hips before dipping beneath the waistband of your pants.
The tension between you two was thicker, hotter now. But it was good tension this time.
His tongue traced along your bottom lip and you opened your mouth, allowing him to deepen the kiss and steal your breath again.
Someone cleared their throat.
You and Dwayne broke apart, heads turning towards the sound.
David stood there, arms crossed staring at the two of you. Michael stood next to him, looking a little shocked. Poor oblivious Michael. But David had a mischievous look, like he expected this.
“Having fun?” He asked, tilting his head slightly.
Your eyes flickered to Michael, noticing the collar of his shirt seemed rumpled and there was a hickey peaking out from under. When Michael caught your eye, he looked away, avoiding the look you were giving him.
David continued. “Don't have too much fun. We're heading out in ten.”
Dwayne's jaw tightened and he gave a non-committal sound.
David glanced between us one last time, a smug grin now plastering his lips, before him and Michael disappeared down the steps and into the cave.
Dwayne turned his attention back to you, now removing his fingers from your waistband and letting them rest on your sides.
You smiled. “That smug bastard.”
Dwayne's neutral face, which was almost a pout, finally broke. He smiled, letting out a chuckle before pulling you into his arms for a tight hug, burying his face against your neck.
