Digital de-aging is bad not just because it always looks creepy as fuck no matter how much money they pour into it, but because it deprives me of getting to see the fucking black magic of a) the casting director somehow finding someone who looks unnervingly like the original actor despite not being related at all and b) the actors completely convincing me that they are, in fact, the same person at different times in their life.
And occasionally, the amusement of sticking a bad wig and some makeup on the original actor and just demanding we accept they're a teenager now.
It's both this:
And also this:
I love them both, your honour.
I would let her put cigarettes out on me
i love this description. the ability to bring down the moon is literally so basic to thessalian womanhood that even girls can do it

Having ADHD is so fun because sometimes youre looking for something that you use regularly and definitely put away in a smart and reasonable place and you have absolutely 0 hope of remembering where and finding it. And then other times ur like "hmm I need a some kind of small pointed object. I feel like i remember seeing a paperclip under the left couch cushion a month ago, i wonder if its still there" and it is
"wait but if u saw the paperclip why would u just leave it there?" its the adhd. Also if i had put it away then i wouldnt have been able to find it a month later when i needed it. So. Checkmate neurotypicals.
Problem is when the ADHD catalogue is out of date, when you go to check under the couch cushion for that paperclip and it ISNT there, sometimes your brain will just give you a montage of false memories of everywhere you've ever seen a paper clip, like this
yeah yeah the paperclip montage, we've all seen it
ok so its not just me. ok good to know
forever grateful i was simply too lazy to let the makeup industrial complex get its hooks in me. I was just like im not doing all of that. in fact. im doing none of that
yeah I have political reasons for it now but my original and still most powerful reason is "I am not getting out of this bed one single second before I have to"
Was at a café with an art exhibition today.
And there was an artist that had eight pieces, seven of which were decent photos and one of which was a photo with an ai background.
And i zeroed in on that ai piece so fast that I didnt even realize they were part of the same collection. Because not only was it ai, but compositon-wise it was much weaker than the others. Because of the AI background, I was aware of its other failures.
And then, because this one seemed so low-effort, I started questioning the legitimacy of his photos, which were perfectly fine and some of them i really liked. Like... not are these ai, but like... are they actually yours?
And then, because I spent so much time on this one guy's poorly composited AI piece, I forgot to enjoy the other artists on that wall.
When I was in art school, they told us that a collection is only as strong as its weakest piece, so when choosing your piece make sure they are a show of your best and that they work together. And I thought that was silly. But now that I see it in action im like... damn, it really does work that way sometimes.
also i was trying to work out if my wet beast was a cormorant or a shag so i tried googling "shag uk" and. well. that didn't go well
so then i tried "shag birds uk"
this was not an improvement

My first job after graduation was in land management, and part of it was to monitor the nest boxes for occupancy. During breeding season, I'd go and check them every two weeks ish, take photos, and record species and numbers of chicks. Mostly, this meant blue tits.
Anyway, early on, I do my rounds one day and get back to my office to record the findings. As I'm looking at one of the photos, I think to myself "Hang on. These look different from the others. They have black heads, not blue, and I think maybe they are bigger. Perhaps these are great tits?"
But of course! As they were still moulting, I wasn't sure; and so, with the wisdom of the terminally stupid, I confidently opened up Google, went to an image search, and there on my work computer in my office in my brand new job, I typed in "great tit chicks."
The results I got were not what I expected. But. Should have been.
I had to IMMEDIATELY go and fess up to my new boss and be like HEY I don't know if you monitor our internet use at all but uuuhhhhhh I can explain. Fortunately she just about pissed a kidney laughing, so it was okay.
(They were indeed great tits)
Are you free from your curse yet i miss you

i love when girls give their boys flowers 🌻
really losing my patience for any 'feminist' statement to the tune of 'we need feminism because women fill a fundamentally different and necessary role than men and will be better at doing x y or z'. like actually i think we need feminism because it is an unbearable death of the spirit by inches to exist in a world where you are not seen as a fully realized human being because of a single cultural determination, and because a world that enshrines such things creates systems that are fundamentally sick to the core
my only religious belief is that there is no afterlife except for the ublock origin team who are going to heaven and the youtube anti-adblock team who are going to hell
i don't think anything will ever be as validating as the woman who's supposed to be training me on our new financial software learning how i've been doing payroll for the last five years. the shellshocked silence. the extended stare into the middle distance as she processed the implications. the horrified hands over her mouth. the heady experience of finally sharing space with someone who gets it. i am not the crazy one here.
i showed her this meme today and she enjoyed it immensely
i admitted that explaining our existing processes makes me feel like wimp lo and she didn't know what i meant until i showed her this gif at which point she agreed
not that anyone asked but when i got this job everyone turned in. paper timesheets. written on printed out empty spreadsheets. and the person with my job would print out her own empty spreadsheet and fill it out with a pencil based on all the other printed spreadsheets. and then use her spreadsheet to enter the time into our shitass software which created 'default hours' for every active employee including part-timers who don't actually work every pay period so she had to manually delete every employee who didn't work. and every time you made an edit in the payroll software there was a random chance that it would delete the first employee listed on payroll so sometimes after making enough edits you'd have to add the first like ten employees back to payroll.
my solution to this nightmare was to make spreadsheets that looked identical to the printouts but used named tables to create a hidden summary table, and i talked the department heads into using them by pointing out they would no longer have to manually calculate hours worked based on time. which is what they were doing before that. usually incorrectly. then i imported all those timesheet summaries into a central spreadsheet using powerquery before using vba to generate something closer to a format that our shitass software was willing to import. but i still had to use a short powershell script to finalize the format because it was a fixed width txt file with a fake filetype where multiple columns had the same name for some godforsaken reason.
this also let me automate my leave accrual spreadsheet that i had to keep because the payroll software fucked up leave accrual constantly. and which my boss originally wanted me to do manually every payroll. with a pencil and a canon mp11dx calculator. he still insisted it had to be on paper in a binder so i wrote a script to go through every table in the excel file and turn everything white except for the most recently added row so that i could just keep printing over the same pages instead of writing it in by hand. every two weeks i would put hundreds of pages of printed out spreadsheets into the printer to add a single row to the end of each page.
did you know that when you change the drum on a printer it can slightly alter the print alignment, and cheap toner cartridges sometimes subtly shed toner in ways that only become obvious after you've run the same sheet of paper through the printer thirty times?

If you can't find a thing, make the thing.
I can never remember the difference between M1L and M1R when knitting so... I made little reminders out of shrinky-dink paper to clip on to my stitch markers!
Could they be neater?
Probably
Could they be smaller?
Sure
Am I going to make better ones?
