all my ao3 works have now been locked for registered users only due to birdbrained people constantly trying to scrape ao3 for datasets to train AI models. make no mistake, I'm not making this decision because I believe I own the IP on a league of legends fanfiction or that my writing is so special and unique and different, it's explicitly because I fucking hate companies
I hate when they make profit and I hate the entshitiffication of the internet, I hate that we lost pretty much all actual SOCIAL media with the decline of forums and every application is aiming to become an algorithm-driven content mine optimised for advertising clicks that thrives on ragebait and consumerism induced by hopelessness that they themselves feed us and profit from. as annoying as it might seem - and it might seem that when artists or writers repeat those things it feels like begging for attention - the truth is you are going to keep seeing those last social spaces on the internet decline and you will start seeing all the art you enjoy disappear eventually, taken over by AI slop and things optimised to sell shit better to you because online spaces are becoming increasingly more hostile and exhausting and plain discouraging to creativity
so while I made posts before about connecting with people in real life as a real form of activism, it is also important to say: if you want fandoms to be online communities and you want them to push through hostile landscapes, connection is always a radical act. so share thoughts on things you like and connect with fans who respond to them and writers and artists within your fandoms, even make and post something yourself regardless of how shitty you think it is because a kind interaction between people is infinitely more valuable than anything capitalism tries to sell you
also make an ao3 account if you don't have one already because you will also see more and more fics being locked. it is always morally correct to tell "kys" to a bitch who feeds people's data to AI!!
