Ava moved her bow with so much grace that it reminded Beatrice of a reverent caress. She was one with her instrument, her fingers dancing over the neck of the cello like she wanted to play all the notes simultaneously.

She held her hand out for the cello case, but instead of giving it over, Ava took her hand and followed Beatrice across the street.

Almost as if she wasn’t thinking about it, she lifted one hand to Beatrice’s left one, correcting her ring finger on the neck of the instrument. It felt like they were in a lesson. It also felt like electricity was cursing through her from the point where Ava touched her.
