How To Cut An Image (GIMP)

Hey guys. Today I'm going to teach you how to remove the background of a picture in GIMP. This is one of the most basic tutorials - I'll make more advance ones once I get all the basics out of the way, haha!

Okay, lets get started!

1. Open the image you want to remove the background of in GIMP.

2. Click 'z' on you keyboard and zoom in to where ever you want to start cutting from. Zoom as much as you can while you're still able to make out the picture (meaning don't zoom so much that it pixilates a lot and you can't make out what you're doing.

3. Select the Free Select tool. (x) With this tool, you can select anything by clicking at points. Your points will be connected by small dots.

4. Start outlining the figure you want to cut out.

5. Once you finish, zoom out ('z', then click on the '-' sign on your keyboard) and right click, select<invert. The background will now be selected. Press 'delete' on your keyboard.

6. If your GIMP is like mine, instead of no background, it leaves a background of a solid colour. If this happens, right click on the layer and click on 'Add Alpha Channel' and then press delete one more!
