may be a hot take but i think the fact minors can access 18+ content by just clicking a button that says 'yes im totally over 18 trust me' is like. totally fine tbh. its a non-issue. i dont care if curious teenagers are looking at porn. they've been doing that for as long as porn has existed. id rather teens explore their sexuality through images on the internet than rush into real life experiences when they're not ready for it yknow. the UK is trying to put stricter age verification in place (which in turn is becoming an online privacy nightmare) and like. for what. who is it helping. why is this a problem.

all the online safety act has achieved in the sense of child safety, is pushing those curious teenagers to go to more and more niche and out-there sites. yeah, the hub might have been got by age verification, but those dodgy websites that nobody's ever heard of haven't. the ones with worse things on them. things that in polite company, are very illegal. websites that those impressionable children are now going to go to, to circumvent the age verification. these kids aren't gunna be looking for weird, illegal shit. but it's gunna be on the front pages of these websites all the same. which is why it was just a stupid idea to begin with. unless you're gunna get every single porn website on the entire internet in one fell swoop, all it's gunna do is cause more harm than was being done in the first place.
