They’re both twenty, which I think is plenty old enough to appreciate ballet as an an art form, but now that you mention it, the idea of blackmailing them sounds much more fun.
It’s nice to meet you too; I’m Helena.
Twenty? Are you serious? You must have the patience of a saint, I would've done something years ago. My brother always used to hide my gear for Crew when he was still living in the house, I guess he thought it was funny to watch me get all riled up when I couldn't find my gloves or uniforms or whatever the hell I needed. So one day, when he was out, I called over some dudes and we moved all of his weights onto the roof, and he didn't notice for days. The look on his face when he found out was priceless! Revenge is a sweet thing, Helena.
For real? Dude, I’ve been dying to find someone that really surfs and didn’t just do it for a cute surf instructor. It’s weirdly hard to meet people that surf for being this close to the coast. Totally don’t even want to hear it about cold, you lived in California. Try surfing Jersey water in late November without getting hypothermia. You need like, four wet suits. Even been to Cali, every summer up until I was fifteen. My parents and I flew out for a few weeks every year, it was amazing.
The lake is no replacement for a good surf, but it’ll sate me until it warms up again.
Nah, I'd never do that. Well, okay, maybe I did it once, but I really needed the help a few years ago! I used to be so bad at it, but when I started skating, I became so much better. That was when it really started getting fun. The scars were all worth it too, I don't care what anyone says! I think the thing I miss most about living over there is getting to go out every day and just relax, you know? It's like a rollercoaster you never wanna hop off of. We should drive out some time and hit the water. Might be cold as hell, but I bet you anything the lake would be ours.Where'd you ride in Cali? We might've crossed paths once or twice.

Bet there's a hot little surfer blonde you'd like to get out of her wetsuit.
I’ve got an AP Government test to study for, a status report for the Environmental section of the Preston newspaper to finish up, and a petition to help write by the end of the week. I really don’t have time for this, I’m sorry.

Well, shit.
That’s so cool. I’ve never known anyone who was able to organize an event like this. He must be an interesting character, naming a protest after a movie — or was it a book? Anyway, I think I’ll be okay just going alone. Thanks for the offer though. I’ll probably end up running into you anyway. It’s a habit of mine.
Yeah, me neither! There are protests all the time back home, and I've been to my fair share of those, but I've never met someone as innovative as this guy. He's just a genius, the ideas he comes up with are revolutionary. They're really going to change the world some day. I mean, people talk about activism all the time, and it gets on a lot of people's nerves if it isn't handled properly, but we really aren't as disrespectful as most people assume.
Well, that’s nice to hear. I wish my brothers appreciated it like that.
How old are your brothers? Maybe some day they'll grow to appreciate it. If not, you can always slip on some tutus in their sleep and use the pictures as blackmail. If they ever talk shit again, don't be afraid to spread it like wildfire. You should just do what you want! It's your decision, anyway. I'm Evan, by the way. Nice to meet you.
Well, shit.
Los Angeles. Yes… right. That would be the purpose of the rally, to spread the word and enlist more people. On the… team? You have a - a team?
It’s Tatum. Tate, if you must. I don’t really enjoy being picked up or manhandled.
Well, a social group of kids like us who believe in the cause and fight to make a difference. We try to stay as chill as possible, but the cops are always targeting us and singling us out, so it can be hard to make it without a group. It's really great to meet you Tate, I'm Evan. No manhandling from me, promise.
Well then thank you. So, you want one then?
Sure, you gotta light? I'm Evan, by the way. Is this all you do around here for fun?
Yea, I think I’ve figured that part out at this point. Just to be safe I think I’m only going to declare “I’m parched,” when I want a beverage.
Aha! Probably for the best, man. I'm Evan, nice to meet you.

Alright bro, suit yourself.
Put On Your War Paint - Self Para
It was his 18th Thanksgiving morning. and his first Thanksgiving without family. It was also the only one that ever counted in his mind, the most important one of all. The young man knew his parents were having the time of their lives and his siblings were probably enjoying themselves as well. But the blood inside him began to boil as something within the depths of his stomach lurched against the walls of his body, lighting a fire against his skin as sweat began to accumulate on his brow. As he grew older with time, the longer the list of people he despised grew and the quicker he had to extinguish the flames of hatred in his heart, since he knew they’d only burn and sting him if he succumbed to the pain they brought. He didn’t know if his disdain for sickening world leaders or wrongful practices made him cynical, or simply human; but one thing was certain: the thought of being another year older made his throat go dry and his hands feel clammy, ripe with the notion that age was upon him. Time was like a beast, chasing him down as every fiber of his being raced onward to fruitlessly escape. He never cursed time's name, merely looked back in the darkness, the memories of his past staring back at him.
The memories of his youthful spirit and innocence always had a way of torturing him, and yet something about the whole thing consistently found a way of holding his interest. It was like he was learning from the past in the best way possible, the harsh reality of his situation sinking deeper and deeper into his skin with each heartbeat and each day - prolonged and stretched by time. The growing pains and unfamiliar sensations felt amazing to the young man, he had to admit; though masochism had never appealed to him in the slightest, making it rather difficult to explain to others who asked. The thing that terrified Evan the most was the sheer notion that he could someday be useless to the cause he sought so hard to defend. That he'd be well-educated, brilliantly promising, and fading out into an indifferent middle age. That he'd be surrounded by people who didn't care. He understood how lucky he was to have what he wanted, and as their peaceful flag flapped in the breeze next to the stage, Evan promised that he would never allow his life to become some bitter routine. He would never stop hearing the sound of the call, the rallying of those around him would be enough.
In one smooth motion, he lifted the megaphone, pressing it to his lips as he planted his feet firmly on the stage, peering through glared eyes into the audience that awaited to hear what he had to say. He was empowered from the hatred that burned within his eyes, breaking through the reverberation that ripped through the audience and spilled through his megaphone. "Are we weak?" he begged the question, receiving a boisterous "No!" in return. A pang struck him in the chest as a feeling of relief washed over him like one of the cooling waves back home. He was a wick in a candle, the young man was simply waiting to be lit. There was hope in the air as his brow furrowed in disgust. "Are we going to let this happen?" he raised a hand, gesturing for more of a response. A much louder "NO!" soared from the small group, gathered in the commons of a local park. "It's our responsibility to take care of these animals and we are failing," he raised his voice. He felt like he was drowning, pushing to reach the surface of the water and break the barriers that scarred him and kept him contained like a prisoner. More cheers from the crowd. "Are we going to fail? Are we that weak?" his voice boomed as he shook his head. Another no. "Then we can't afford to act like it," he finished with a loud declaration. This was the future, and he was only striking the match.
My feet are killing me. I laugh in the face of anyone who says ballet isn’t a sport.
Ballet and cheerleading are some of the hardest sports you can do. I used to drive my little sis to practices and she'd come home in worse shape than me sometimes.

The kind that I’m wearing. Perfect for showing everyone how you do the thing with your pecs.
What? That sucks, man. And I thought I had finally found a partner in crime.
I just choose to flex without a shirt on, 's all it is. I don't need stripper shirts to work it for me, bra. I can still be your partner in crime without freezin' my balls off.
