I’d like to add this photo I took last night in Victoria of the statue of Captain Cook. Though I myself am not indigenous, I 100% agree that these murderers, kidnappers and rapists shouldn’t have huge statues and plaques that decorate them and say how “great” they were.

People need to see this. Not just quickly glance at the photos and keep on scrolling. They need to see this.

I went to a “Cancel Canada Day” event and burst into tears - not because I was surprised to learn of the unmarked graves (survivors told us they were there. Our government pushed it aside, and we let them), but because seeing all the people gathered in mourning drove it home: They. Were. Children.

This is my country’s legacy - and it’s not history. The last schools closed during my lifetime. My Father went to school with students who lived at the local residential school, after it was changed to a boarding house (read: holding centre) for indigenous youth who went to local schools.

Thats good. I actually havent heard of the German internment thing. I looked into it a bit, it's called the "enemy aliens act" I believe. I do think this is interesting, as at this point in time in this country, people of German descent essentially became racialized in a way. The US infamously did the same thing for it's Japanese citizens.

So there's this idea of Scandinavians as superior race even as a division within White people. And the same thing about the fascist concept of Aryan race.

And so all this to say that one maybe could think of the different kinds of hierarchies as dividing those who are othered by Nordicism, and so one could maybe talk about the modalities of Nordicism, the ways in which the marginalized are thought of and exist socioculturally and historically. And so one may be targeted by one of these modalities, but not by others, thus having privileges of not inherently experiencing the specific ways in which a particular group is marginalized.

One day I'll write about what it's like to grow up knowing you might have a terminal, incurable illness, and not be allowed to test yourself because "it's such a serious decision" they don't want it hanging over you until you're an adult (as if it doesn't hang over you as you witness a parent die, and know you've got 50% chance of inheriting the same illness--as do your siblings). One day, I will talk about how, in the fear of traumatising children with the knowledge they might be incurably, terminally ill, they also took away their right to decide over their bodies to a degree that is traumatising. One day.

But today I am going to cry. Because it's over. Because no child will ever have to go through the same uncertainty, because at least they will know there is a treatment option available. A treatment option that one of my siblings might come to rely on. With all the shit things happening around us, my childhood hope and dream have been realised. That's got to count for something.

It's possible, but difficult, to file a complaint against a public defender for being openly hostile or unprofessional in treating their defendant, in order to request a new public defender from the county. Replies like the one he gave above are great evidence that he should not be assigned to someone that he's openly bigoted against. (I've got multiple emails he sent to me that are similar in tone, so I'm not surprised he's sending hateful emails instead of doing his job as a lawyer)

similarly, any emails like this can go into a complaint to the Texas state bar, which we plan to file as well. Luttrell has been reprimanded before for not representing his clients when he was legally required to, so any formal complaints will help.
