Girls I am looking you in the eye and holding you tight. 99% of all things people describe as being female or male puberty is made up bullshit. Sex is not as black and white as you think (nor is it real for that matter.) Please. Dont listen. Jaw sizes and leg lengths and whatever is made up, misogynistic, and sometimes even race science. PLEASE im begging you to not hold yourself to such standards, much less other people.
It's time for Trilobite Tuesday! Though disarticulated trilobite parts are a regular occurrence at the Massie Formation outcrops of Indiana, complete specimens of Spathacalymene nasuta––like the 2.5-in- (6.4-cm-) long example pictured here––are rarely found. With its pronounced cephalic rostrum and caramel-colored shell, this Silurian trilobite is among the most instantly recognizable species in the world.
Never been a big fighting game person but I've always thought db fighters and strive look so cool. Guess what cool fact I just learned.
that they're both arcsys games and share the same engine?
yeah yeah the load bearing Goku we all know it
To explain to those who may not know this wonderful factoid:
As Demily stated, both games are arcsys games, but Dragon Ball Fighter Z was their first game in that particular engine. The movement system was set up such that only one character (our titular Goku) actually had the code for movement, and every other character essentially had a line of code that said "see how Goku does it, and do that."
This has a few benefits. It decreased the amount of code needed per character, made it easier to tweak the movement across the board, and was really funny.
This same movement and mechanical system and engine would follow into the next Guilty Gear game. But why change the reference point if it still works just fine? So all the characters in that new engine ALSO had the code that said "go see how Goku does it, and do that."
So in the depths of Guilty Gear Strive's files, there is a lone Goku. In the wrong place, in the wrong timeline, holding everything together by being the only character that actually has the code for the core game mechanics.
The load-bearing Goku.
Haven't done a big one in a while. Felt good
A comm like this would be $200 for 3 frames/phases. Each extra frame above that is $45 (50% off instead of the usual 70%)

The Spectral Titans, by Anthony Machuca
Lyra, my beloved cat of 13 years, passed away this year on Father's Day. She's been by my side through very difficult times and was my little rock of steady and unrelenting love. I struggled a lot drawing this, and struggled a lot posting it, but I know I would've wanted to read a comic like this that validated my grief for her when I lost her.
Wherever you are, Lyra my little summer star, I love you always! Thank you for being the best thing in my life.
The number of people who have tried to justify Goose getting banned on Tumblr is horrendous. Since the finale and the confirmation that Jax is a closeted trans woman, there's been a rise in people trying to deny that Jax is a trans woman and a general rise in transphobia when it comes to the fandom and towards Gooseworx. I wasn't even the biggest fan of the finale, but seeing so many celebrating Goose losing her account and even using it as an excuse to misgender her is disgusting
I am not saying that Goose should be above criticism or that I don't completely understand why so many POC fans were angry over the whole controversy. There's absolutely a discussion to be had about how normalised racism is in many fandoms and indie communities. But I find it very suspicious that people were only starting to dig up old tweets and posts of hers since the finale was announced to be heading to theatres. Even though it's clear that Goose and the rest of the cast have grown out of this behaviour and have taken accountability for their actions. It's completely fine not to accept her apology, but that does not make it ok to harass her and be hateful back
I've also seen people trying to use Jax as a way to say that Goose is just as bad as her because she has said that Jax is her self-insert. Like....regardless of how you feel about Jax and how her story was handled, you do realise that the whole point of Jax being Goose's self-insert is to explore what could've happened to Goose if she didn't open up and grow as a person. Using edgy humour to push others away so they don't get hurt. This isn't even the first time a character has been a self-insert for its creator. But the MOMENT the creator doing this is a woman and/or trans woman, suddenly it's a problem. For God's sake, she was literally acknowledging people's criticisms of the finale and agreeing that it could've been better
That's not even mentioning how @staff have been notorious for taking down trans women's accounts for the dumbest of reasons. Ignoring actual hateful people who spew out harmful and downright dangerous content. This has been a problem on Tumblr for YEARS. But no, let's just accuse Gooseworx of not being able to handle criticism, so she deleted her account. Let's also call Goose racist and misogynistic and ignore actual hateful bigots because we want to make Goose the new Vivziepop and Rebecca Sugar that we can use as a punching bag
Tumblr being the "piss on the poor" reading comprehension site makes sense when you realize that 79% of adults in the US are functionally illiterate. Same goes for Twitter and TikTok.
that's a real high number, sport. where'd you get it?
hey anon
please tell me you didn't google "US literacy rates" and then make the funniest possible mistake one could make in that situation
Throw her

Next up someone is going to claim that the Narnia series isn't kids books.
Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.
I want you to understand this. I NEED you to understand this. My mother read me the hobbit as bedtime story, and I started pushing myself to read before pre-school so I could in fact read the hobbit for myself instead of having to wait for bedtime.
I didn't do so right away but jesus wept I PUSHED myself to learn to read SPECIFICALLY so I could read The Hobbit! It is, in fact, a children's story! And children only see page count as 'there is a lot of this fun story to read!'
I don't need to explain myself
Reading is in the trenches because why did my 9 yr old nephew look at the word "jealous" and said "jewish"? And when asked why he mistaken it as such he said they both started with a "J". It's like his brain is doing autofill. No matter how many time I try to tell him slow down and sound out the words he just won't.

TRAP CARD ACTIVATED
No, but seriously, anon, you need to look into what's going on in his classroom because he's probably being taught this trash method instead of phonics. He does not know how to slow down and sound things out because his school has never taught him that. When you tell him to do this, he has no context for what you're even talking about.
This has come up repeatedly here, and I don't have time to froth at the mouth today, but look up "whole language".
This podcast made waves a few years ago when all the lockdown parents discovered, to their horror, that their kiddos weren't being taught to read in the NORMAL FUCKING WAY WE'VE USED FOR LITERALLY CENTURIES and were instead being taught a fake-ass method backed by vibes and antivax-levels of pseudoscience.
Intervene now, anon, or he's never going to read well.
I remember one of my grade school teachers discussing with my mother the differences between me and my sister at learning to read, and he described me as a "sight reader from the start"... which is to say, an acknowledgement that most people do not do that and it's not reasonable to expect that of the majority of kids, who really do need the phonics and the "sound things out."
Generally speaking if a kid has arrived at school not knowing how to read already, they're not going to do well with sight reading and need phonics. The few kids who develop The Reading in the way the whole language people think they should do it before they hit school.
So true. I know a retired teacher who bawwws and tries to contradict me when I rant about whole language at our knitting meetup. She's all "different kids need different approaches!" and "I saw it work!"...
But of course it feels intuitively sensible to her. She taught herself to read at age 2. That's the exact kind of experience that does make this method sound reasonable. But like you say, if it's going to happen, it happens very early and without the school curriculum.
As for me, I've said it before, but I assume anon wasn't around: I could not learn to read.
I was in second grade. (First grade? I can't remember. Around then.) Most of my classmates were reading at least a little. Me: nothing. I could not learn.
It was even a god damn private school, but I had to have a fucking tutor. I got dragged over to that lady's office a few days a week for... two months? Four months? It really wasn't that long, as far as I know. I was more than ready to learn. I just needed an actual fucking method that wasn't lying trash. Almost at once I jumped from nothing to reading well above grade level. For the rest of my childhood, I continued to diverge from my classmates in how many words I knew, how well I could read, the works. Every year of grade school makes that gap widen. I was on the desirable side of that gap. I was lucky.
It's obvious how verbal I am from reading my tl;dr on this blog.
But I could not learn to read.
I was a couple years younger than this nephew, but not that much younger. It's not too late. Now is the perfect time for some tutoring. If you can afford it, get a pro. If you can't, do your best. But you've got to do something.
The four cueing systems if whole language reading education are a band-aid method used by severely dyslexic people. When people's dyslexia is so bad that they simply cannot learn to read effectively, tricks like cueing allow them to function well enough in society to get by. They do NOT teach proper literacy.
This system was popularised by a guy who is obviously dyslexic, refuses to acknowledge that when asked, and essentially decided that everyone else must be like him and therefore the system that helped him get by was a substitute for real literacy since it was so much faster and more achievable for him to learn to "read" this way than phonically. It's kind of like if somebody without hands was learning to sew, found it incredibly frustrating to do without hands, so they started putting their creations together entirely with fabric glue which they found easier to apply... and told everyone how much easier it was so all the schools got rid of needles and thread and sewing machines and everyone was taught to "sew" using fabric glue only and then wondered why their clothing kept falling apart on their bodies.
obsessed with star trek repeatedly writing themselves into a corner by creating alien races that are supposed to be The Bad Guys when that explicitly conflicts with their previously established notion that no group of people is inherently good or evil.
first it was the klingons—they’re originally supposed to be this cruel, bloodthirsty, war-obsessed people—and then tng comes along and it’s like wait no maybe war and violence is a part of their culture and actually ties back to ancient traditions and philosophies so we have to be woke about it.
hey these are the ferengi and they’re supposed to represent everything we hate about capitalist society; they’re greedy, scheming, profit-obsessed, and they look like ugly little trolls to emphasize how much we fucking HATE capitalism. oh wait fuck here comes deep space nine and we have to recognize that they’re PEOPLE. okok what if the pursuit of profit is actually part of their culture and ties back to ancient traditions and philosophies. so we have to be woke about it.
this is the borg, they’re a hivemind race of cyborgs who have no sense of individuality and their only motivation is assimilating people into their society. they want to assimilate humanity and we are completely defenseless against them because their technology is eons ahead of our own and they’re incapable of being reasoned with. oh sweet we have a borg prisoner this is the perfect opportunity to commit genocide against them. fuck actually we can’t commit genocide we’re woke and communists and in space.
hey these are the cardassians, they’re part of a cruel and vicious empire which is supposed to be a representation of fascism and authoritarian regimes, they’re a cold, bloodthirsty people with no sense of empathy or compassion, their society literally references 1984 on multiple occasions, and they’re known for the insanely cruel and inhumane methods of torture they use against their prisoners of war. we hate the cardassians…….. except, here’s a cardassian kid who grew up on bajor, and……. fuck. he’s a person. now we actually have to consider his humanity. and being racist is actually……. bad.
this is the jem’hadar, they’re genetically engineered soldiers who have no sense of individuality and only live to defend the state. they’re all born addicted to a synthetic drug that’s manufactured by the state and administered by their masters—this is how they’re kept subservient. they’re ruthless and powerful and they’re incapable of being reasoned with because their only motivation is violence and killing. so we should kill them all, right? FUCK….. what if they’re actually people. goddamnit. now we have to consider their humanity.
hey these are the romulans. hey these are the founders. the list goes on. i just find it really interesting
Mission accomplished!
