Here's a very short fic about Huxley and Amelia after the birth of their first son
Huxley stared at the little fluffy Mirthian newborn sleeping in his arms, watching his little boy at peace after finishing his feed. The new father couldn't get over finally holding his and Amelia's child after so long. Granted, he would've preferred it if he had waited till his due date and not while he and the rest of their team were scouting, but at least the delivery went well despite the circumstances
Huxley looked up as Amelia was in the middle of sucking the meat off the braised Turnfin legs that one of their crew prepared for her after the birth. After all she went through, she needed all the meat she could get her hands on to regain her energy and strength
Amelia licked the sauce off her lips as she caught Huxley staring at her dreamily. Even more than he usually would. "What's with the look?" She asked, her lips curling into a smile
"Oh, nothing. Just when I thought you couldn't be any more beautiful and fierce, you prove me wrong yet again." Huxley purred, giving her a playful wink
Amelia's cheeks blushed red, stifling a giggle. "Oh, stop you tease. I'm just glad it's all over and that our pup is here." She responded, smiling at their pup. "I can safely say that squeezing you out was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life."
"I'm never going to complain about sleeping on my neck funny ever again after seeing what you had to go through," Huxley admitted, pulling Amelia close so her head was resting on his shoulder
"Well, be glad that you're so handsome. Or else I would've killed you for putting me through that." Amelia joked, giving him a loving nibble under his chin
"Well, I wouldn't blame you." Huxley laughed nervously, turning to boop his and Amelia's snouts together
As they pulled away, they heard whining, looking down to see their pup beginning to fuss as his face scrunched up
"He's hungry again? I just fed him 30 minutes ago." Amelia sounded almost impressed
"Well, look at the bright side. Our Hugo's got your appetite." Huxley joked, carefully handing their son to Amelia's waiting hands
"Not my size, though. I can almost carry him in one hand." She whispered softly as she looked down at Hugo in her hands, gently nuzzling him before holding him close to her chest to eat
"Well, surely that means our boy's gonna get his Old dad's looks." Huxley stood up proudly, causing Amelia to laugh
"Let's just hope he and I share some things aside from my appetite." Amelia held Hugo's hand, letting the pup curl his hand around her finger as he ate. Her smile faltered slightly as she thought. "You don't think... they'll treat him differently, do you?"
"Who? The village?" Huxley asked, noticing the change in demeanor
"No. I mean... you know." She whispered
"Oh..... your family still not talking to you?" Huxley muttered, reaching to hold her hand
"Unfortunately, yeah." She whispered, clearly disappointed as she held his hand. Their fingers wrapped together. "I dunno. I guess a part of me was hoping they would come around eventually, at least for Hugo. But knowing them....I dread to think how they would speak about him."
"Yeah, your old folks are very....opinionated." Huxley grimaced at the memories of how Amelia's mother and father would make constant snide comments towards him. "But honestly, it's their loss. If they still want to be a hump over you choosing your own happiness over what they wanted. Then they can live with it."
"And I still don't regret what I said." Amelia responded, watching Hugo snuggle into ger arms as he ate. "I can't imagine my life now without you, the crew, or our little Hugo."
"And I can't either." Huxley smiled softly, nuzzling her cheek as he reaches over to stroke the back of Hugo's head lovingly
After a few moments Amelia spoke. "Huxie, can you do me a favor? Can you-"
"Ask Gigi if they still have any leftover braised Turnfin?" Huxley finished her sentence
"You read my mind", Amelia smiled
