One of my clearest memories of my childhood was watching a Magic Treehouse themed planetarium show, and even though I've read the book it was based on dozens of times, I was in awe of the technology and it help foster a lifelong interest in history and science museums.

Jack and Annie are why I'm studying history and want to go into museum education in the future. Jack and Annie shaped my life. Even now, I still have my favorite Magic Treehouse books on my bookshelf, right next to my archaeology manuals and history textbooks.

The United States of America. It’s been at war for roughly 92% of its existence. So obviously the United States of America is a warmongering nation that attacks other for power, right?

Well, no.

This is a list of major wars, so doesn't include wars with Native Americans or the bullshit USAmerica did in Latin America (I understand why theyre not here but when you make the wild claim that "tHe uS dOeSnT sTaRt fIghTs jUsT eNds ThEm" you can't just...leave out all of those times the US has started fights with or in other nations to gain power) and even in this list way more than just two have "maybe/kind of" been started, at least in part, due to the US wanting to expand its power and influence. (And idk why the Civil War is even on this list when discussing the US being viewed as a "warmongering" nation that attacks others?)

RULES:

MUST be extinct- savvy creatures who are still alive, like the coelacanth and my beloved horseshoe crab, are not eligible here

this animal must have existed and gone extinct BEFORE recorded history. the thylacine, the moa, stellar’s sea cow, these animals are all very dear but they are not eligible here. for simplicity’s sake i’m using a working definition of the end of the last glacial maximum, but I’m just a guy who likes bones and if you know a better way to do it I’m all ears

you don’t have to be a student or scholar to participate in any of this, i just ask that you know basic information about both animals before you vote

i’m too lazy to make an entire google form so you can just drop a species name in the comments. i’ll do all the research myself i love research. send as many paleoblorbos as you want, bonus points if you have a funny line to go with any of them

you can send basic bitches like the stegosaurus or the wooly mammoth but if i think your paleoblorbo is too well known I’m not adding ‘em, i don’t want them to sweep the lesser known animals simply on basis of recognition

The thing is, it's not forest. It's like a cornfield but trees. Trees planted evenly, all of them the same size, often the same species. Chopped down when they're tall enough. No rotten wood left behind for biodiversity. A lot of species need the old forests, they can't live like this. It's fucking uncanny. The worst thing is many people don't probably even realize forests are not supposed to look like this.
